First, I do not know what this part is called. It is the one that holds the radio, climate control, cup holder etc... I am wanting to upgrade from the stock radio to a dvd screen. I have been researching a bit and have found the post in the audio section on do it yourself, but was wondering if there was an aftermarket piece or is it just do it yourself?? Reason I want to do this is, 1.) dont like the flip out screens 2.) dont like the gritty texture of the plate behind the screen and would rather it look somewhat stock. Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Brandon

I had an Eclipse AVN 5435 installed after one of our local guys got it done (both installed at the same place) and all they had to do is shave the first bar under the radio a bit to fit the 7" screen in
I, like you, don't like the flip ups but after I saw what they did on Gettreal's car, I like how they did the installation and took the plunge. Even when you're in the car, you really have to look hard to see that the bar was shaved
The console piece you can get from Ebay or brand new from GM parts Direct (sponsor). I bought a spare from GM Parts Direct to test fit my Nitrous panels (test fit different designs). It cost under $100 new.
I cant find c5kidd anywhere to do it, it said the name was no longer available on the forum. So, I think I am going to grow ***** and do it myself. I have found a used one and hopefully it will work.
thats pretty much exactly how i had in my head, but with a head unit and cutting all the bars out and making one large hole, and using that black plastic stereo shops use for the backing, just like you did.
I just bought an Eclipse AVN5500 for my 04 MN6. I want to install mine exactly as above, leaving all the stock A/C controls and ash tray door in its place. I see the lower bar was cut in between the stock radio and A/C controls. Was the top shaved at all? Any other modifications needed, or just cut the bar, touch up , and install? Thanks for any help!

Here are some pics I took...admittedly, not the greatest but it will give you the general idea of what they did. When you're under the unit, looking up, it doesn't look all that straight but sitting upright in the car, you don't see the edge as the unit itself overlaps it. They didn't have to shave the top but they did have to add some stereo filler plate on the sides

I have an Eclipse AVN 5435. Didn't think I would use the Nav that much but I do. When we travel, we can simply enter the address of where we want to go and it takes us right there. Don't use it at all around town of course, but its great for any kind of trip outside our normal cruising area...my next DD will definately have one

No other mods besides the filler plates on the side. As you can see, they didn't have to shave the top at all
Hope this helps guys but don't hesitate to contact me if you have any specific questions
