I have a 2003 Z06 since new with 29000 km on original tires(18500 miles). I took the car to dealer after 3875 mile road trip and was told the front tires out of alignment and front left down to cords. Rear tires down to 6/10ths. I have decided to get 4 new tires. The age old question Firestone wide ovals or Michelin PS 2s. The guy at tire rack said the Firestones have been overbuilt since the Ford fiasco. I use the car as a daily driver for 6 months during the summer. Obvious $500.00 price difference. What would you do?

Pegger,
I also have an '03 with 21K on the clock...studied all the tires available and went with the PS2's....it's the only way to go for the best street performance tire you can buy for the Z! This tire handles great, has super traction vs. the Goodyear F1's, and they are quiet. You can cut corners in other areas with other mods, but they are well worth the $500 (only $125 per year for the 4 years you get on a set of tires)! Talk to Luke at Tire Rack (877-522-8473 X362)...he's the Vette Man for tires. Oh, don't forget to get a 4-wheel alignment too. Good luck.

I have two sets of wheels and tires...F1 SCs for performance driving and the Wide Ovals for regular running around. I love the WOs and think they can't be beat on bang for buck. I have driven them on the track and at autocrosses and find them to be well behaved. That being said...they are not as sticky and therefore not as competitive as the F1s and presumably the PS2s. If you are set on doing performance driving and wanting to WIN at autocrosses you probably should pony up the $$s for the Michelins. If the majority of your driving is on the street with an occasional stab at an autocross or high-performance driving event than I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the WOs. They are quiet and great in the rain and the lower price is just icing on the cake.
Funny you should mention your left front being out of alignment. I had new Toyo T1R's put on this week and my left front tire was down to the cords on the innner side of the tire. I had fairly good rubber on the outer edge, so the alignment is way out. The other three tires were fine as far as alignment. I wonder how many others out there had the same thing happen to their tires.
Had to chime in on this one, as I just got my new PS2's and I have to tell ya. I have never piloted a more tracking tire ever. I have a 02 Z06 and have had the F1 supercars, the BFG comp TA's the Kumos, the Pilot sports (which I loved or so I thought). Then after burning out the rear tires again I have now opted for the PS2's as I found the original pilot sports to be the best I had tried yet. Now after about a month and a half of driving (about 3500 miles) into them I have noticed a considerable difference in traction. From Launch time to cornering at high speeds and wet traction response, These PS2's truly are an F1 inspired Race / Street application tire. As for ware, well I managed to eat up a set of F1's in less then two months so anything past that and I'm happy. After all I didn't buy a "Z" to save money. I bought it to out perform anything under 100k and even some that are more and any edge I can get I look forward to. In ending my (soap box rant); For all out performance look no further PS2 is the top dawgg. For cost efficiency look to Kumo's. As a set of Kumos is only about 375 a set (2 rear or 2 front) and the PS2 are well over 800 a set. (yes that's only 2 tires).

Me, 2002 ~18,500 miles, Left front inside to the cords, the other 3.5 tires tread looks okay.
But the car tracks straight, steering wheels straight. As soon as I get the weight/ride height balanced on all 4 corners, I'm going to take it to get a 4 wheel alignment.
I put WO's on car this summer as my replacement street tires. I took them on the track one evening at GingerMan when they were new and was pleased with both wear and performance. Normally I run DOT R compound tires on the track, but for many reasons decided to run WO's this particular night. I was able to hang pretty close to a friend who was running on Toyo RA1's on his Z06.
