Default Help. CLB Problems

Here my story. I've had my 98 MN6 vert for a little over a year now. I never had any column lock problems with it. However from some of the paper work I got from the previous owner it appears the column locked on them, and the car was towed to a dealer. I don't know what repairs were performed.
I've read many horror stories about problems other forum members have had with their cars, so I bought a CLB from Corvettes of Houston.
The second time I started the car after installing the CLB I got the "Pull Key Wait 10 Seconds" code on my DIC. This happend several more times. I called C of H told them my problem, they sent me a second CLB unit. I installed this one but the same problem continues. I have also noticed that my tire pressures don't always read on the DIC any more.
Does any one have any sugestions what I should do next?

It is probably not a defective CLB relay.
The '97 and '98 models are more sensitive to the new quicker reacting relays.

Check out these two threads

The second thread relates to using the slower reacting GM relay harness, and the first thread will help if you have the BCM relay modification. The drawback in using the GM harness is they have had quality problems with the relays. I got one of the original relay kits GM PART # 88952427, installed it in my 2004 Z06 and have had no problems. GM changed the part number prior to the most recent recall, and the relays have been prone to premature failures.

You get the message on your DIC, but does it still lock up? Does your fuel still shut off? I seem to recall some people saying they get that message, but it doesn't keep them from being able to drive.

It Can't lock with the CLB installed, but the fuel shuts off.

98s have different results with CLBs. Try this:

1. put key to on position. (do not start engine)
2. open fuse box on passenger side floor board. pull fuse 23 (BCM) wait 10 sec then plug it back in.
3. shut off then pull key out for 10 sec then restart engine.

if the BCM resyncd itself, then the message should clear.

PS- if the clb is in there chances are you dont have the GM-K harness so thats a good thing. you can confirm what exactly was done by visiting your local chevy dealer then ask for vehicle history report.

I get it in my 99. CLB installed, as well as the Harness K by the dealer that is supposed to stop the message problems. Every once in a while, I start up, go to move and stall out. Then notice the message. Pull the key, wait, fire up and off I go.

I recently installed the CLB in our '97 and also get the "Pull key and wait 10 seconds" message and the car stalls if I attempt to move it without pulling and waiting. As far as I can determine from the paperwork I received with the car, both recalls were done in regard to the column lock problems. It is a PITA, but the car starts and drives OK once you deal with the "pull and wait" message.
