Anybody running Avon tires; if so how do you like them?
I now have a set of Kumho tires and want a set of tires for my spare rims.
This is a daily driver.
Thanks,
SC5
Got 22,000 (18 months) onto a set right now on my daily drivin' '01 coupe! Love 'em! In fact, I'm pretty sure I can get through another winter in Kansas with 'em and replace them with another set in Spring. Great in the wet, better than expected in the snow, and very good summer performance. Maximum bang for the buck.
I have Avon Tech M5500 A/S non run flats.
About 20K miles now.
Very inexpensive, great drive, super quiet.
Car is DD and I do not push it to the limit.
For me are great tires and I will but them again.
I had 3 punctures in 3 months but is not the fault of the tires, just a lot of roofing nails in Florida
Hope it helps for reference
I replaced the original runcraps with a set of the Tech M500 summer tires at about 23K, having owned the car for 1yr and 11K at that point. I got 1yr and 12K out of the rears before replacing, which included some autox and a few "light ups" on the street. With my driving, I figure to get around 20K-22K for the fronts and 10K-12K out of the rears. The tires are asymmetrical by not directional, meaning that you can rotate the fronts side-to-side without remounting to even out the excessive inside tread wear.
Straight-line bite, overall cornering grip are better than runcraps. Much quieter, and really softens the impact of the Z51 over bumps. Slightly slower turn-in response, I think due to the stiff sidewalls on the factory GYs.
All around, I think they are the best deal going. The center of the rears wears out if you spin them much--I think the casings are pretty flexible making the tire bow out with centrifugal force. I now run about 28psi in the rears. I get some flat spotting when the car sits for awhile, but it goes away within a few miles. I also notice that psi gains more with tire heat than the GYs used to.
