Agreed. I also love the sound of exotics. I guess I can appreciate the sound of almost anything with a V-8 or 10 or 12 or 16.

Of course, what each of us likes best makes it all entirely subjective, but for me, "it's all good", eh?

From a built Ford flattie running thru Smitties, right up through the *most* exotic, it's the character that counts, isn't it--from the rumble of a big-block that vibrates your abs to the howl of a small-bore racer?

Back in the early 70's, I had a 56 BelAir--350 & glasspacs; loved the echo off of concrete barriers/walls (or my neighbor's windows...).

My 95 SVT Cobra with a Dr Gas X-pipe (between equal-length shorty headers & bassani cat-backs) had a fascinating 5- 6,000 RPM "snarl".

Drove an ERA "cobra" w/427 & sidepipes from Missouri to Oregon 10 yrs ago & learned the value of ear plugs (& insulated footgear, but that's a different story).

A 289 Cobra with *stock* mufflers & tailpipes has a unique crackle--more enjoyable from the cockpit than behind the car.

A fuelie Corvette (or early Z28) with factory "off-road" exhaust option; ah, I WISH I had one.

"Retired" GT350 vintage racer--long-tubes, 2-chamber flows & side-dumps--wonderful...for about 20 minutes, 'til my ears start to ring (could be the absence of side glass & sound-deadening, I guess)...and my wife wonders why I ask "What?" more frequently since I got it....

And the 02 Z06 stock system...(almost) inaudible cruizing the freeway (for hours, listening to the stereo), but it's own unique character each time it hits 6K RPM...I LIKE the "dual personality" for a daily driver.

But, it's all good, isn't it?

haha, I own a cobra and a MY Z06. I love my mustang and have met great people on the road! I see more idiots in vettes than I do in mustangs, especially cobras. I enjoy driving my vette more, but I wave at everyone. It's fun to beat vettes sometime in my 04 cobra. They don't know what hit them and then refuse to acknowledge they were outgunned. Enjoy your cars!

Amazing how many of us (including me) own or have owned mustangs. And yet mustang and 'vette people seem to be different people, don't they? Mostly, I think, the mustang people on average were us when we were younger and less mature. I've got to ask one thing. How can the ricers be soo proud of the sound their car makes? Don't they know it's undisputeably aweful? Do they really think they are impressing someone driving a Z?

are you serious about this??? where are you from, I'm from the bay area and the mustang owners are the ones who are always out there revving their engines at mostly everybody that owns muscle cars, I've gotten more revs from mustangs specially 5.0's a few camaros as well, and what I get from vette owners is just waives and thumbs up and never a rev, I guess it depends where you're from

I may rev. at another Vette if the owner is parked and doesn't see me, then I wave. Better than yelling HEY!! out the window.

He is right- it is the firing order-
Stang motors have the sweetest sound of all- NOT loudest...

Worst sounding has got to be a stock older Viper- sounds like a UPS truck to me !

Haha, I was going to say the same thing. Viper's firing order have 2 cylinders firing at once, so its sounds like a loud 5-cylinder.

Sound does not represent power. However, a lopey cam can sure make it sound powerful.

Here's another vote from a former Mustang and current Z06 owner - the Mustangs sound better, period. You can't match it. Not the loudest and clearly not the fastest cars, but they sound AMAZING.

I have to go with the LS1 camaro sound over the mustang, my 99 stock to me sounded way better and louder than any stock mustang, well at least thats my point of view

How do you hear a "rev" at 75 from a car going the other way?
I do know what you mean it's the "Mustang inferiority complex"
Held by anyone of them that has one, that come's out when they
they get close to the the far superior Z0-6.Just regular Vettes
cause it too. It's Vettes are neater and they want attention.
Then there mad when you blow them a way I am swear on the
bible about 150-2 in races with my GM stuff Vettes,Camaro's Firebird's
since 93, Against Mustangs. They rev at Camaro's too for the same reasons.

Anyway I usually wave at any cool car I see. If someone revs at me at a light that's OK. Most of the time I dust them away from the light and then slow down to wave at them too. I usually get a big old smile and a . Mustangs might have the best sounding exhaust (and I think they do), but Z06's rule the road! 'Nuff said.

Earlier today I was making a left turn and this kid in a cobra pulled out going right, of course he had to lay into it laying down black marks, looking cool but he did not see the cop 2 cars back from me, he was too busy making sure he impressed me with his driving, needless to say the cop made a u turn and made his day I'm sure. It was so bad tonight while driving on I270 another cobra going the other direction at 75mph reved so hard it hit the rev limiter, even my other half ask what the hell that was about! She really did not believe me until it happened 2 more times in the next 15 minutes. What really surprised me is that the guys driving were not all kids, some were well into their 30's. I guess I just do not understand the fun in that anymore, especially when I am on a dealer tag....you know it isn't mine! It is times like this that I really like my z. Thanks for listening!
Your a SNOB typical greyhair eh ?personally if i was on a dealertag i wouldverun that blown 4.6 for all its worth....as for the sound ( i currently have an 04 C5Z and a 05 C6)....nothing sounds better than a 5.0 with an H-pipe and 2 chamber flowmasters (ive had about 10 of them, my last 2 i ran on the street with it dumped at the rear axle lol neighbors hated me coming in late).

I personally would have ran it hard aswell.

I've had 5 mustangs, all in a row, then an SS and a Z28, and now a Vette.

Nothing sounds better than a mustang. (I had a 625rwhp 1993 Vibrant Red Cobra, 1 chamber flows )

I miss that car alot. But love the Z none the less, probably more.

I completely agree with Chuck. When ever I would go to a Vette meet and try and start a conversation with the other Vette owners I got the cold shoulder. Maybe it is because I am young(23) and they probably thought it was Daddy's. I get asked "Is that yours?" Why yes, it is mine. "No really is it yours?" WTF is so hard to believe about me owning it>?!?!? Guess what! It's paid off too!!!
I just sold my Z and it will be picked up this weekend. I am thinking on building another Mustang. I bet if I do, those same Vette owners that waved to me when I was in my Z wouldn't give me the time of day if I were in a Stang. Oh well. -Mat-

That sounds about right. Vette owners are getting younger and younger every day and is no longer just for the 'gray haired midlife crisis' type. Soon, the days of stock automatic Corvette vert's with gaudy chrome tail light add-ons and owners wearing those ugly Corvette hats/sweaters/polos/tshirts every where they go will be over. I feel like most older owners are out of touch and have Corvettes just for the image. Take a trip to your local test and tune and you'll find most of the real car performance enthusiasts are young people like myself and don't consider our cars just a trophy. You can turn up your nose in your weak automatic vert, but I'll downshift my 500hp Z06 and drive it like it's supposed to be driven.

Default I have a 99 c5 w/B&B bullets

It sounds great, but not as loud as some of the local mustangs I have seen. I'd say mine is loud especially at WOT, but idling it sounds like a Danzi....some of those mustangs...I wouldn't want to drive b/c they are "too" loud. And besides, you can't hear them when I leave them behind me. LOL

Now...for a story...once upon a newly purchased c5 a new blue lambo (probably a rental) comes along and downshifts...now my friends that is a car. The roar of that car was amazing...I'd say he downshifted into 2nd from about 60 mph. It made my car shake. Fortunately for me, before I got the beating of my life from a lambo, you know you gotta go...a FL trooper merges onto the highway...LOL...saved me from the embarrassment.
