First Post
This seems like such a great forum, thanks for having me.
At the ripe old age of 47 I just acquired my first Corvette. What fun!
When I was 16, my best friend was good enough to let me borrow his frequently ('63 split window automatic, which he was restoring. Looked like heck, but who cared?) I got my first speeding ticket in that car, exactly 2 weeks after getting my license. In the words of the officer: "Son, this is no way to start your driving career..."
Anyway, now I have one of my own. I bought it with 125K on the clock, which made me pretty nervous. But after having it for a month, everything checks out fine and I'm good to go, I think.
What on earth took me so long?!!

This is a fantastic welcome!
It is a 1999 red hatchback automatic. So far:
1. Things I have done myself:
a) Replaced OEM shocks with Bilsteins
b) Changed plugs and wires (they still looked really good after ??? miles.)
c) Changed coolant (which also looked fine.)
d) Cleaned and oiled the K&N filter/intake. This had been neglected I think.
e) Checked the DIC for codes - found nothing worth worrying about AFIK.
f) Ordered the 3-volume service manual before I picked up the car.
2. Things I paid someone else to do:
a) Change A4 trans fluid/filter. (All looked good. I brought them a GM filter/seal kit to put in.)
b) Oil/filter change (Valvoline synthetic 10w/30.)
c) 4 wheel alignment. This was important. We were toed-out and the thrust angle was off. I wondered why the car handled great, but was really twitchy and dove into the turns. Also almost launched myself off the highway flooring it at about 80 mph. Very interesting driving on the rutted/grooved roads around here, and especially braking at speed. It's nice and stable now. (I kind of miss the old feeling actually, but it would have made me nuts with the constant steering inputs to correct.)
Thanks again all.
