Default [MN6]AMSOIL ATF Installed

Yesterday I drained out the RP Sychromax trans fluid and refilled with the AMSOIL ATF fluid. I wasnt expecting a difference since both are top notch synthetics. (i have Amsoil in the motor and diff. So i decided to be consistent with the fluids.)

I took the car out for some "spirited" driving. Right off the bat, shifting through the gears was alot smoother and the tranny is quieter. When driving around town, the shifter just slid into each gate like butter.

Just wanted to share my experience with everyone

I just did the same procedure, although surprisingly, I was only able to get about 3.3 quarts before it became full. It was on a level surface and I let it drain thorougly...hmm...

Anyway, took it for a spin and definitely notice a difference. The shifting feels looser. Still has that notchy feel though, unfortunately.

Good to know. I need to change the fluid in mine one of these days and will consider the AMSOIL.

you should try it again when its time to see if its because of the FRESH new synthetic fluid or its really because its amsoil instead of royal purple.

Everytime I change my engine fluid with RP it feels better. Its because I got used to the oil that had 3K+ on it. Just a thought.

Thats a good point, I thought of that too. However, 2 things:

1. I only put it RP in there in May right before CI-7. I guess the test would be if the smoothness holds out.

2. One thing that I noticed was that royal purple fluid for whatever reason made my trans louder when cruising on the highway. i could hear some slight whining from the gears. I figured, its prob from all the hard driving I do with this car, its expected.

guess what...no more whine!

ATF

Its GM Dexron III specification exactly what the MN6 calls for.

PS- get the hand pump too which plugs right into the bottle. So much easier to refill with that.

I really dont think so. The oil will heat the same, but I would like to see how much the Amsoil breaks down compared to M1 or other brands.

I will probably send it out to the lab after a weekend on the track and see the differences.

As Ike mentioned, GM requires a fluid meeting Dexron III specifications for the MN6. The AMSOIL ATF meets this specification and is what I have been using in my Z06 for several seasons now without any failures.

Interestingly, the AMSOIL recommendation for the T56 tranny in the Dodge Viper is the MTG so the MTG would probably work just fine in our tranny as well, but... you'd be outside the owner's manual requirements. I recommend sticking with the ATF.
