Default Bullets..loudest?

Friend has the Bullets and I really love the sound and looks. MAD says they're the loudest system avaliable. I know some of you have the SLP's or GHL's and think they're loud, but does anyone really know? Maybe a decible reading? I know it depends on what else you have, like headers , cam, ect. I currently have an A4, Blackwing and PRT's. No other engine work. Any ideas?

Well - with Dynatech Long Tubes, Hi-Flow Cats, X-Pipe and B&B Bullets, from 10' my car idles at 101 dB and revved maxxed out the unit for measuring at 130dB (again from 10ft...)

Thats the pain threshold - so when my friend was measuring it, he admitted it actually hurt to stand within 15ft of the car while i was revving...

you be the judge on loud.

Now thats what I'm talking about!! I'm not going to go with the headers, leaving that as stock. Was considering an x-pipe. Would that make it louder as opposed to the stock h-pipe?

Idle a 101db is over the legal limit in just about every state. 130db definitely.

So I guess my question is what the facination with LOUD?

Loud in itself is not always good.

I run H/C, LTs, HF Cats, X-pipe and Corsa Indys. My car turns heads at idle because it sound good not because it is loud, Cruise is nice and I can listen to my music. At WOT it's wicked loud and sounds awesome.

So enlighten me whats with LOUD?

I'm sure your car does sound good with the H/C, LT's, HF cats... but your putting out a lot more power than I am. But I'm not going to put out that kind of money. Just want something a little louder than my PRT's with what I've got under the hood now.

I'd love to - you should come to my place - we'll have a couple beers and you can be enlightened by how my car sounds. I have H/C, LS6 Intake, and a bunch of other goodies on my apartment floor waiting to be installed... (400-420rwhp target) They're all going on infront of my DTE LTs and B&B Bullets - which will prolly make it even louder.

You are also correct, pretty much anything over 98dB at any speed is considered illegal... but cops don't care out here...

Don't assume because my car is loud that it sounds like crap. It's an LS1... it doesn't sound like a Le Mans spec Ferrari (really crappy FYI) it sounds like a refined high performance Chevy V8. And it sounds that way at a fairly high dB.

I'm sure you understand that dB also has a frequency factor... that 101dB measured at idle, is a very low frequency, giving it a noticeable grumble... a pressure you can feel in your clothes vibrating... but not exactly a sound that drowns out stereos...

At WOT yeah, i can't hear a damn thing, but at WOT i'm not listening to the radio or my passenger... i'm driving. Now, while cruising around, my factory Bose stereo has no problem playing at a comfortably low level while still having a conversation. The car grumbles outside, but while driving around theres no reason why i can't have a normal conversation with my passenger...

(97 MN6)

To each his own...

With Long tubes, hi-flows, and GHL Magnums (5" cans, 2 tip exhaust - see mod list in sig), my car idles at 103dB at idle when cold, and settles to about 98dB when warmed up. Measured 3 feet from the pipes, C-weighted, slow response. I don't have the ***** to do a measurement at WOT, since my neighbors are LEO's, and I'm in gross violation of the noise ordinance (I don't drive above 2k RPM while in town out of courtesy to my fellow citizens). I may have to visit an abandoned stretch of road in the country and measure at WOT. I know that at WOT, you can hear the car a mile away, literally.

Loud is good, when the car sounds good. Small Blocks sound good, even with the goofy firing order of the LS1 (different, more exotic than the classic small blocks).

I'm walking my dog last night and a guy who lives about 2 blocks away says, "I see you had your car out Sunday." He then goes on to tell me that it rattles some of the stuff in his garage when I start it. There's no sneeking home late at night in that puppy.

Loud is setting of 5 or more car alarms when you start your car.

actully I have 1 3/4" LTs, High flow cats and 3" x-pipe to a 3" exhaust staight pipes.

I use them not for the noise or "LOUD" but to reduce exhuast back pressure to provide far better air flow and more ponies.

at cruise speed there are not that bad, and Borla Stingers are LOUDER, but a full thottle or when the car is started, it does shake the ground.

as long as I am under 106 dbs at 50 feet then I dont care. I also have baffles to put into the ends if needed to reduce sound.

My Z06 is basically stock with SLP loudmouths and Halltech TRIC and from 3 feet away my decibel reading was 129.6 @ WOT. Stock headers, etc. The SLP's is the loudest, but not by far over the bullets. Both IMHO are great sounding systems. Start adding headers, then you better get some ear plugs! Many will argue the Bullets are louder, but if you put the same exhaust on the identical year model car that has the same identical setup, then the SLP's will be a decibel or two higher than the bullets.

I just put on some quad tipped B&B Bullets about two weeks ago on my Z. Man, it's the best decision I have made! I had the Corsa Indy Pace exhaust with my LT headers and I was looking for a deeper, louder rumble throughout the whole rpm range. The Corsa at idle was dead quiet but at wot they came alive. The Bullets have that deep american muscle tone from idle all the way through...especially at WOT!

They are light, inexpensive and look great sticking out the back of the Z! The only way to go as far as I'm concerned.

Although my neighbors do hate me now!!
