I thought I saw a thread on this before, but now I can locate it.
I have noticed when I get in the car in the morning, when I back out of the garage and down the driveway I get a grinding/growling sound from the rear end of the car. I also notice the sound in drive when at low speed (i.e. less than 10 mph or so)... Not under acceleration, I hear under coasting. Does anybody know what the heck it is, because it is driving me insane...
Hmmm -- I have the same noise, I think, and have assumed it was the exhaust contacting the floor. It definitely is only noticable at extremely low speeds, like when backing out of or entering the garage. Interestingly, this noise started after I had the diff rebuilt by the dealer, and I assumed they were just a little careless re-installing the exhaust pipes, so I haven't worried about it. Maybe I should be . . .
Same thing happened to my 03. Have the rear end fluid serviced. They will also need to put in the 2 - 4 oz. botle of positraction additive. After that is done find a large aprking lot and do ~8 (slow) figure eight turns going forwards and backwards. This took care of the problem for me.
