Default Scam-- I think

Ok guys--I need your help. I have what I believe is a scam I want you all to see but it is on my email. I can copy and past the email but I want you to see the pictures associated with this. I also bet some of you have already seen this as it is a vette for sale on the corvette hound site listed at the left. I sent an email thru the corvette hound site the other day asking if this car was still availbale and that the price MUST be a misprint. Below is the email I received today and if you can help me figure out how to get the pictures here you can see the rest..So fo those of you that are lookin---remember the old saying---if it looks tooo good to be true---it probably is...

Being that I cannot get the picture from my documents right now I want you to understand that this car we are discussing is a 2000 MY/black vert with low miles (I can't remember exactly how many right now) and they want how much???

Start watching your backs people and research everything COMPLETELY.....

Thanks
Lori

The price I want to obtain is $13200(shipping is included in this price).

I recently moved to London, United Kingdom.I brought the car with me, but I can't drive it here because cars from here are with the steering wheel on right, and this has the steering wheel on left so for me this car is useless and the problem is that I can't sell it here because it's a US car and it is with the driver seat on the left side.
The car is like new, completely working, low miles, with 3 years EXTENDED, INTERNATIONAL and TRANSFERABLE warranty, which will be honored at any dealer .
It is US model with US specs and passed the US test emissions.
I would like to use Escrow-Europa for this deal because it is a large purchase and I want a smooth transaction.
If you are interested, please contact me ASAP.

Best Regards,

Cristine Pase

You should contact vette hound and let them know about the "deal".
They should police there own site.

If there weren't so many numnuts on this planet, people like this would actually have to resort to getting up in the morning and go to work.

There are Corvettes on the road in England and are highly desired - with left hand drive. I lived in England and had left hand drive cars for 3 years - friends had Corvettes --- this is just a scam - send your check and never hear from anyone again!

Wouldn't that be a novel idea..

I actually emailed them back to se if they would give me an address. My husband did a google search on the escrow company and there is a black list website that has some good stories about them and an address they are using. If I get an answer I will send it to corvette hound and the black list site as well. Even though you can tell immediately that it is a scam (noone would be selling that nice a car for 13K) I want to make sure I have enough info to post for people..

So again---everyone here is REALLY smart but for those that need help (one report said the problem is that some people want whatever it is they are offering SO bad that they convince themselves it is ligit)---here is the help you need...

back when i was in the market for my c5 i came across this same deal. i think it was the same car if i remember right. i got an email or two from this guy he said they had something like pay-pay or some kind of spinoff from pay-pal. this is very much a scam if they are trying to sell you something from far away. think about the cost to ship a vehicle from there! this is a common one and i bet if you tell the guy you are in the area you won't here from him again. good luck!

The numerous grammatical errors which Scam/SPOOF/'phishing' e-mails contain make them more than obvious from the start. Although many can/may appear to be legitimate (even with proper site logos/graphics), a good 'rule of thumb' is to always be cautious and never respond/reply to and/or click on an e-mail link, unless you're absolutely certain of the sender's legtimacy...examinie the originator's e-mail address closely.

Maybe the posting was meant to be in British Pounds vs U.S. Dollars. That would be about $23K-$24K.

Ok guys---here it goes...

here is what I said in reply to this person's email:

Thank you for your reply. I have friends in London.. Can you give me an address that they can come and look at the car for me?? And maybe a phone number so they can contact you to make arrangements to see it??

Thanks

Believe it or not---I just got a reply back and here it is and it is pretty ballsy if you ask me...

I'm using escrow for this exact reason,I don't have free time to you or any other buyer,so let me explain you all the terms of this deal:you will have to make the payment to Escrow,I will receive the payment only after you will receive the car and approve it.I will start the shipping as soon as payment is clear with Escrow and I can and will ship it to your home address.
The car as you could see is in showroom condition and it has not been involved in any accidents. It is paid in full and it will come with the title, bill of sale signed by me and all the papers that you need to register under your name. I will support the shipping, including the shipping back,if you don't agree to keep it and in that case you'll receive a full refund from Escrow. The shipping will take 4 to 5 days and will start as soon as payment is clear with Escrow. Please email me your full shipping address:
-name
-address
-city
-zip
and I'll contact Escrow soon after. They will contact you and provide you all the informations that you need to complete this deal.I have a very tight schedule and I will only use Escrow to finish this deal!

Best Regards

Christine Pase

I am actually surprised I got a response being that i said I had friends in London and wanted them to come and look at the car..

Heads up people...

There are plenty of sites out there for people that have played along with these scams, documenting things all the way. They're pretty relentless about contacting you once they have your email. All the usual requests will be filled but with fakes as often as possible. Things like scans of the title, picture of this person with the car and today's paper, etc will be so phony as to be ludicris. But people continue to fall into these traps on all too regular a basis.

Yep, there's been an increase in escrow scams throughout the past few years...caveat emptor.

OK time for Hubby to chime in... This is starting to take the same footprint as a scam we got involved in a couple of years ago.. We wanted to purchase a camcorder on ebay and lost on an auction. I was contacted via email about the same camcorder from a fellow in the mid-west and asked if I was interested in it. He promised free shipping, 30 day gaurantee and even pay for the shipping back to him if we didn't like it. He even lowered his price after I told him I could get one cheaper on ebay. Foolish me (us). He wanted to go through an escrow company but, ready for this, the escrow company was unable to accept credit cards because their credit card system was down and did not know when it would be up. He said to wire them the money via western union, even gave me local addresses I could go to, to do the money transfer with western union. Well needless to say he got the money and we didn't get the camcorder. Filed all kind of complaints Internet Fraud, State Police and even State Attorney General. State Police called me to inform me that FBI was on the tails of the people that were behind this. They were caught and are currently in court in Chicago. Hopefully we will get some or all of our money back.

I'd rather pay a couple of extra bucks knowing I'm going to get a car versus losing thousands of dollars on something like this.

As soon as I read the first email my wife got it had SCAM written all over it.... Never again....

Being the same kind of guy who likes to walk telemarketers through their entire response flipbook before hanging up on them (save me the whole 'their trying to earn a living like anyone else' cause so are the knuckleheads selling crack downtown), these scams are fantastically entertaining if you have a little free time to mess with 'em. I love offering them more than their asking price because I'm trying to utilize my full advertising budget before year end. Often, you will find a new 'author' to the e-mails if they think you're trying to give them your money but don't understand their broken english instructions!

good fun if you're a little bit sadistic!

I just had somone the last couple weeks try to scam me on the listing that I had on Vettehound.

The contacted me, said they were going to send the payment PLUS and additional $4000 to cover shipping. At that point I was supposed to deposit the cashiers check, send $4000 via Western Union to the Shipper, and they were going to come pick up the car.

Well, luckily I did NOT send any money anywhere. I was able to verify with my bank that the cashiers check was bogus.

So, if any of you get an email from A guy named Andy Brian, with an e-mail address of brian_andyautos55@yahoo.com It's a scam!
