Default Fuel door problem

Hey guys I did a search a couldn't find anything on this. I put gas in my C5 today and the door opened fine w/ the release button but wouldn't close. The pin that holds the door wouldn't come out. I used the manual release and it will pop the pin back out and I can close the door fine, but if I use the release button same thing, the pin sticks until I play with the manual release. Does this need to be lubricated? Is there something I'm missing? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can't remember where I found the answer in the forums specifically, but the spring that returns the pin is weaker than it should be. You can purchase a hardier spring from home depot or another store if you feel like taking the assembly apart or get a whole new assembly. Everything I've read suggests it's a common issue.

Forum member Logansar made a post on 11/13/10 that detailed the repair procedure for this issue. I put that post into a Word file, complete with pics, and if you can't find the post using the search function, I could send you the file. Just PM me your e-mail address if you would like a copy.

Damn, just noticed this was a post from back in 2006 - sure hope he has fixed the problem by now.
