That's not a fair comparison then because you have more understeer with the PS2 combo than you do with the GY F1SC tires in the stock sizes.

Same for me.

I disagree. I propose that a simple visual inspection of the PSII tire tread alone is enough to argue that the SC is the lesser of water management tires. I've driven in down pours using the SC & the PSII and felt significantly more confident on the PSIIs than the SCs. Further, I've successfully engaged in both auto cross and drag racing with PSIIs. I still argue that the SC is a stickier tire but does not manage water as well nor does it last as long (under 'spirited' driving conditions) than the SC.

However, and in closure, I think it doesn't matter too much what kind of tire is on my Z as long as my Z is runnin', I'm grinnin'

I've run the same roadcourse with both of these tires on my '04. The GY SCs are much better. Less understeer, more feedback, better turn in, better corner exit rear grip, and on and on. On anything less than hydoplane water depths, the GYs stick great in the wet.

Just my opinion. Others opinions WILL vary.
Ron
Like you say, opinions WILL vary.

I based that on the fact that I could "feel" slight steering inputs produce appropriate vehicle response to the steering input.
If not, I would have backed off until appropriate control was "available" via "slight searching".

Your mileage may vary, and so may your opinion on "what is safe", and I'll respect that.
I'm 64 years old, and have never had an accident that bent any sheet metal.
And, I've driven a LOT of cars on the road, mine and GM's. Driven Hard.
And, I've had to do "a few" real trick avoidance "dances" to avoid idiots.

As a former professional accident investigator, I know that doesn't mean it can't happen tomorrow, big or little.
When you pull out of the garage, you are only split-seconds from the BIG ONE.
Maybe my fault, maybe not.

My "job" in street driving is to make SURE I NEVER take any innocent ones with me.

I have to respect that "roadcourse" evaluation.
You've been there, I have not.

I liked the F1's "in the wet". I love the PS2's in "flooded wet".
I can't speak to "roadcourse", because I have nowhere to try that safely,
other than funning around in 1st gear "parking lot" power-oversteering crap,
which isn't a fair comparison of "tire capability".

I am happy in the dry "with both" at 7/10th's for real world mountain twisties.
They had BOTH better be able to do THAT well.

Default PS2 vs. Goodyear

Oh no...another tire post! The M's are nice but way expensive. I have them on my E-55. I went for another brand on the Z05. Car drives just fine.....I can't tell much difference, but the drain on the bank account was significant. Actually, I put the FS wide ovals on...will try the GY next time since FS screwed up and put the rear wheels on the front....

Seeing as no one has mentioned this, perhaps this is a good time to point out that the F1 Supercar was developed specifically for the C5 Z06.

Yes, I know that.

I also know a LOT of the guys at the Milford PG Tire and Wheel Laboratory. I raced MX with one of them for a LOT of years.
They are supposed to be "in charge" of developing GM tire standards, and approving "the OEM stuff".
For a lot of "years", I have defended their efforts. Ford or Chrysler are not in the same league.

But, they are the same guys who allowed Firestone to put OEM tires on my '03 Z71 Sierra full-size pickup.
And, the right rear tire sidewall COMPLETELY TORE APART at 50 mph on a straightaway, with PLENTY of tread left.
I have "unbeliveable pictures". This was "quite a while" after the Ford Explorer/Firestone "fiascos".
Nice work, "friends".

Maybe too many "free lunches" ?

P.S.
Trial lawyers, it is not hard to track me down.
Bring it on.

A valid reason to be upset - however, I cannot see that having any bearing on a tire developed specifically for a production racing car with a 186 MPH rating on it and track duty in mind.

Ron -- Were they the PS' or PS2's and what sizes?

Are you at Laguna Seca yet?
