I want to jack up my car to remove my brake calipers to have them powdercoated. I bought a floor jack to use but I can't get the jack all the way under the car because the car is to low......any suggestions on how I can get this jack under far enough to lift each side to remove my wheels ?
The jack measures approx. 4" in the front but quickly reaches 6 1/2" towards the middle which is where it starts to touch the under side which prevents me from reaching all the way under.
Thanks for any ideas.
My ACI Chin Spoiler makes it impossible to get the low-profile jack under the front of the car. Normally I would move the jack under the car from the front with a 2 x6 on top of it. Now, I have to pull the car onto some ramps I made just to get the jack under the front end. I made them from wood from the "cut bin" at Home Depot. I think I have less than $10.00 in everything.
Cut a 45 degree angle end on two - 3 foot long pieces of 2x10. Lay the boards in front of your front tires and drive up on the boards. You should be able to get your jack under the car with it sitting on the boards.

Hydralics, Dude. Me and Chico just push the lever on my chevy, raise it up a foot and slide the jack unter. Don't need no stinkin ramps.
I just ran down to Walmart, found the Rhino Ramps, which happen to be on sale today for $34.00 and bought them !!! I'm ready to go. Thankx for your help all.

Try driving up on some boards to get the car a little higher off the ground before using the jack. There have been some good DIY threads on making ramps from pieces of lumber.

My car is lowered by suspension AND body bolts, so it's really tough to get a jack under it. I looked for a jack that would clear for nearly a year and a half. Finally found one that works perfectly at Harbor Freight of all places. It was only $79 (on sale from $99), and I wouldn't have cared if it was twice that. It is only three inches high and fits perfectly under the car with the lifting pucks. Otherwise use a piece of 2x8 to drive up on and get the jack under it. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91039
Rhino ramps work but a LOW PROFILE JACK will fit under the lifting points (oblong holes) under sides of car NEAR the rockerpanels. Make some HOCKY PUCK and HOOK EYES to fit in the holes. I did this for $10 plus tax.
Got a low proflie racing jack on sale at harbor freight for $100.
i use pretty much any oem jack under my car to get it up just enough to get the normal jack on, once i lower the car since it takes a while to settle i can just get it out normally....so far ive used 2 lexus jacks, a honda, and a toyota
