Any other helpful tips that you can think of?
Do I have to remove the whole regulator to be able to remove the motor only?
What should I do after I remove the motor to make sure it functions after I reinstall it?
It's possible that your cable is bound up some how. I've seen the cables come untwined a little and bind up and stop the entire system from working. I would take the door panel off and have a peek. If you are not sure on how to do this then do a search and there's a step by step process written out with photos.
Now I thought I'd give an update on the repair. I ended up ordering a used regulator/motor assembly. Got it for $74 delivered from a certain auction site that shall remain nameless.
When it arrived tonight, I went to work. I already had the door panel removed, along with the speaker and sound barrier, from when I was diagnosing the problem. Loosened the 2 bolts that hold the window glass, and removed the glass. Then removed the 7 bolts that hold the motor/regulator, unplugged the motor, and removed the whole thing.
Then put in the new one, reinstalled everything, and what do you know, it actually worked! I was certain I'd screw something up.
The whole repair took less than 30 minutes to do. Then I spent about another 30 adjusting the window just right, spraying the window with water to check for leaks, etc. For anyone needing to do this repair, all I can say is save a ton of money and do it yourself. The shop was going to charge me almost $480 for parts and labor!!! This is definitly an easy repair that can be done by a "novice". Believe me, I am certainly a "novice"!!!
I don't have any pics of the process, 'cause the only digital camera I have is my cell phone, but the link in this thread has plenty of photos.
If anyone needs any help, feel free to PM or email me and I'll be glad to lend any advice I can.
Thanks again Corvette Forum!
