Wow, your motor/regulator really went bad?! I was thinking about that just today, i always roll my windows down, and i'm at 140,000 miles without so much as skipping a beat. Are you certain that your BCM didn't fail?

Yes, I'm absolutely certain that the regulator failed. When I opened up the door to see what the problem was, I saw that one of the plastic connectors that links one of the cables to the regulator was broken, which had allowed the cable to get all mangled.

Do a search. There should be a DIY thread. I just had my passenger side replaced in my '04Z last week under warranty. It would have cost me $479 otherwise. GM regulators and motors are crap. I've replaced all of them in my Grand Prix and both in the '03 Z.

I've tried, but can't find the thread. Can you (or anyone else) post the link?
Thanks.

Did my kids 99 last year (passenger side) was the easiest thing to do. The regulator is one piece, and the only thing in the big ole door, it just bolts in. Door panel removal was simple.... nothing like my F150 or Dodge Neon.

Are there any specific adjustments that have to be made to the motor/regulator assembly to make sure the window lines up right, or do you just tighten down all the bolts on the regulator/motor and make all the adjustments on the clamps that hold the window glass?

Any other helpful tips that you can think of?

I don't recall having to make any additional adjustments...just tightened the nuts where the old ones were marked on the frame.. You will be amazed at how empty the door is inside and how easy this is to do.

Don't buy a brand new regulator. Just go buy a used one for ~ $100 or so. On my 98 I just got a used one from Vette2Vette which is a forum vendor. They deal in used vette parts and have reasonable prices especially compared to new

my passenger side window motor seems stuck. I tried the methods described in other threads of holding the button down and slamming the door closed. It doesn't seem to work, or maybe I am afraid of breaking the door.

Do I have to remove the whole regulator to be able to remove the motor only?

What should I do after I remove the motor to make sure it functions after I reinstall it?

You can't just buy the motor or replace the motor...you have to buy the whole assemply and that's why it costs so much.

It's possible that your cable is bound up some how. I've seen the cables come untwined a little and bind up and stop the entire system from working. I would take the door panel off and have a peek. If you are not sure on how to do this then do a search and there's a step by step process written out with photos.

Default Repair Complete!!!

First off, thanks to everyone who posted info here to help me out with replacing my passenger window motor/regulator!!!

Now I thought I'd give an update on the repair. I ended up ordering a used regulator/motor assembly. Got it for $74 delivered from a certain auction site that shall remain nameless.
When it arrived tonight, I went to work. I already had the door panel removed, along with the speaker and sound barrier, from when I was diagnosing the problem. Loosened the 2 bolts that hold the window glass, and removed the glass. Then removed the 7 bolts that hold the motor/regulator, unplugged the motor, and removed the whole thing.
Then put in the new one, reinstalled everything, and what do you know, it actually worked! I was certain I'd screw something up. The whole repair took less than 30 minutes to do. Then I spent about another 30 adjusting the window just right, spraying the window with water to check for leaks, etc.
For anyone needing to do this repair, all I can say is save a ton of money and do it yourself. The shop was going to charge me almost $480 for parts and labor!!! This is definitly an easy repair that can be done by a "novice". Believe me, I am certainly a "novice"!!!
I don't have any pics of the process, 'cause the only digital camera I have is my cell phone, but the link in this thread has plenty of photos.
If anyone needs any help, feel free to PM or email me and I'll be glad to lend any advice I can.
Thanks again Corvette Forum!
