I think my traction control is broken

I had a spin in the rain the other day. Maybe from all the reckless moves I use to pull when I was younger I don't get too spooked in those situations. I think it was becuase of the active handling I recovered a lot quicker than I thought I would. I love the feeling of regaining control of the car. Lets you know your alive. It was quite fun

Sounds like a recipe for disaster, speeding, driving with one hand while drinking coffee and having bad tires.

You were very lucky you didn't hurt someone else let alone yourself and your car. I hope this served as a wake up call.

Ok, stepping off my soap box
Speed limit is 50 mph on this road, which maybe to fast. Was speeding but not recklessly, or at least I thought. There are always cars on the side of the road here. Tires are not terrible. I just don't think they are a good match for my rear gears and t/c. Maybe I just need to get use to it a little more. Could have been a lot worse. I joke around, but it is definitely serious. Glad no one was around. Glad I didn't get scared and closed my eyes either. Finally got shakin up when I got to my desk at work.

Sometimes we have to learn where the limits of our cars are and our driving abilities. I guess for me in my opinion, the only thing I had a hard time with was that you had coffe in your hand when your full attention should have been on your driving. Even a half of a second might have made the difference and as I am sure you know things could have turned out worse. I am glad you were not hurt, no damage to your car, maybe to your pride, but I give props for coming here and taking the feedback like a man. Be safe my friend.

I have a '99 and have done just about the same thing but without the ditch entry, just wild fishtailing (i had lost it). I've heard that the active handling is not that quick to assist the car, they came out with another generation of that feature around 2001.

I don't think my car has active handling though. When I tested and held the t/c button would not go into competitive mode. Moving, parked, nuetral, etc. I could be wrong but I don't think it's in my car. I went back to the scene w/ my 4x4 lol, and no coffee. to look and see if there was any oil or something. But did not find anything. It was dark though so I will check it out again tomorrow morning.

I was already going around 55-60 mph when I gave it a little gas to beat the light.

Let's see.... "a little gas" at 60 outta take you up to 80 without "flooring it". Since there is no way your tires got loose going straight ahead even if you were running on bare rims, so it's safe to assume a bit of cornering is involved here. Most likely a fair bit of cornering. Perhaps even a corner with reverse chamber or that tightens in - don't know not much information coming from you about this except you are blaming the tires.

You are over-accelerating into a dry corner, lose it... and blame the tires? Formula One cars also lose it on corners when they over accelerate,or take curves too fast - bottom line is it's physics, so I'm not sure what tires to recommend to you..... When centrifugal force exceeds Mu (the force of friction) your going into a ditch a pole, or even worse yet... the dreaded poll.

Bottom line is they don't make a tire which will keep a vehicle on the road if the driver goes into a corner too fast, but you have found the formula on how one finds out what the limits of the envelope are - fairly expensive way to learn though. No matter what tires you buy, I'm pretty sure we'll be reading another post from you someday telling all about how dem damn tires let you down - again. Cuz you are blaming something which isn't responsible and in denial on the real culprit.

You are understating your stupidity in causing this and explaining the accident with only information that defends you? You didn't encounter oil, or water? If you were taking ownership of your driving as the true cause of the accident, I would feel better thinking there is hope for your future....

Hope you find the magic tires your looking for. For the grip you want suggest you select a race compound which allows something like 15 or 20 miles driving before they wear out - then go back and try that curve at 90. If it still doesn't work at least then you will know who, or what, is to blame.

You almost had poll position!!

Could it be you have too much horsepower?

New tires might do the trick but you're damn lucky this time, glad everything turned out the way it did..

Look at the Goodyear GS-D3's. Very good all around tires.

You are correct I was coming out of a minor corner and it was driving error I never stated that it wasn't. It always is driving error and it happens to the best of em'. Tires played a huge roll and I'm sure either some water or wheel hop was involved as well. I just got caught with my pants down when I was not paying anough attention to what I was doing. Well I'm going for a ride and going to look for a fun corner.

on dry pavement with my worn tires, except for first gear, I need to slip the clutch to break it loose. To be going 50 on dry pavement and have your tires break loose...even with a slight curve ..I think you're downplaying the events that led to this just a teensy weensy bit. You should just tell us the whole story, the fogies will bash you but many of us have done worse

Default michelin pilots --NO

Put a set of michelin pilots on the wifes 99, they are a run flat and they are loud, way loud, sounds like a set of mud grips on the vette. My second choice was Kuhmo.
Any one else have pilots that are loud. Have tried various tire pressure to no avail.
