Not my week. First the door lock relay goes out now it will not stay running. If ran fine yesterday but when I started it this morning it runs really rough and wants to quit. The RPM’s go to almost to 0 then back up to 600 or 700 then back down. Right after I start it I can get some higher RPM’s by pushing the accelerator but within a few seconds the engine speed does not pick up accelerating. What gives???????? Any ideas???????
Couple things to do right off the bat. First, check under the hood. Look for any loose connections along the air intake tract to see iff you have a leak. That can cause the unmetered air symptoms you describe.
If all looks well there and the problem persists, the next thing to do is to check your codes in the computer. Go to the link below and check the codes the computer display on the dash readout. Write them down and post them back here so we can see what the PCM can tell us.

I had a similar symptom. The air bellows had become loose behind the MAF sensor and was allowing air to come in behind the sensor. I replaced the bellows with a power coupler.

...including battery cables.
Recently I started having what appeared as electrical gremlins attacking my '97 STS; just plain weird stuff. It turned out the bolt holding the neg. cable to the battery (AC DELCO) had loosened to about 1 ft-lb. of torque.
Re-tightened both connections. Everything cleared up!
Here are the codes displayed
28-TCS U1016H
60-IPC U1016H
80-Radio U1016H &U1096H
AO-LPCM B2278H
Bo-RFA U1016H
All the other codes were clear. Car still runs like s!~T.
Problem solved. The clamp holding the air intake bridge worked lose and resulted in too much air going into the engine. Reattached the air bridge with a new clamp and car runs just fine. These things are really sensitive to the volume of air going in, too little or too much and they will not run.

Glad to hear you got it solved. BTW, is this a zee-oh-six or a zed ought six? Sorry, couldn't resist. See the great post below.

Pretty common. Good work finding the leak. Unmetered air is a on these cars.
