I've read all the posts on changing the turn signal bulbs and I've found the "Rubber bumper hood support removal" method works best and quickest. Having gotten that out of the way, here's my problem-for the past 2 days I've been getting the fast blinker on the left side9(No flashing). No problem on the right side whatsoever. I'm on a multi-state road trip right now and I'm driving for at least 6 hours every day and the DLR lights are on the entire time. The strange thing is the left blinker would work correctly for a while, then only about half the time later in the day and toward the end of the it wouldn't work at all. I replaced the bulb and the old bulb looks fine to the eye. I tried the left blinker and it works great. I try the right side for the heck of it and it blinking fast (not flashing). What's the deal? Long post-sorry but had to give all the info.
Yep, bulb was burned out again. In fact I had to drive in the rain again and Whadya know? Another blown bulb. I replaced them and all is right again-Until it rains I guess. I checked the sockets when replacing bulbs and they seem to fine. There's a small amount of scorching on the plastic housing but the contacts look great with no corrosion whatsoever. I don't think the area where the sockets reside gets wet when driving in rain. Anybody with similar problem?
When you get back pull the housings and take a look. You'll prbably find that the light unit is cracked and is letting water in. It's fairly common. Either seal the crack or treat yourself to new housings.

Common problem. Heat from bulbs melt/deform plastic housing. Water/rain gets in; pops bulb. Vicious cycle that will never end until the water is prevented from getting in. Personally, I have cut a small piece of heat insulation material made by Thermo-Tec (the thin adhesive backed stuff) and stuck it inside the housing above where the bulb sits. Been holding up pretty well for the last few years so far.

I did, I replaced the socket and cut the old one in half and saw that green corrosion crap (couldn't see any corrosion before cutting it in half) on the inside. I replaced 2 bulbs in the span of a week before I installed a new socket. Now it works fine (been 2 weeks now). Don't forget that it is a dual element bulb so maybe the DRL works fine but the signal element is burnt. Hope that helps.

PS. The rubber hood stop and plastic headlight shroud removal reach under and around method does work great.
