Default mag red is rare!

i stopped by a local chevy dealer yesterday trying to find the best touch-up paint for the '01. i told the knuckledragger behind the counter it was an '01 mag red convertible, to which i got this:

him, "you mean red?"
me, "well, no, mag red. you know, magnetic red 2"

so he looks up the paint in the computer and brings over a can of touch-up for torch red.
so i say, "no, that's torch red"
he says, do you have the car here"
me, "no". (in the work truck, dammit)
"do you have the VIN?"
"no."
"well, the only color the computer shows for corvettes from 1997 to 2004 is torch red".
so apparently, i, and a whole bunch of you have the ultra rare non-red magnetic red c5.

Brilliant!!! This is why I don't let the dealership work on things that make the car do important functions....like stop.

I went to the largest Vette dealer in our area for some touch up Millieum Yellow. I had to go home for the vin# (in the work truck too). They only made one friggen yellow for the C5 for christ sake. I ordered it and it took 2 weeks. UFB

Clutchdust, you went to the wrong dealership I guess. My local dealer looked the paint code (WA379E) up using the VIN, and then gave me some touchup. Of Course the parts man is a close friend and fellow C5 man. They are not all kuckledraggers.

The dealer asked for the VIN but when you have the work truck it is hard to give him the VIN

You should have given him the Vin from the truck. Who knows, he might have gotten the magnetic red that way.....

At Colonial Chevy in Norfolk, Va, I gave them the VIN and they handed over the Mag Red II (2004) paint. No wait, no hassle and no more stone chip! I'd rather have them get it right the first time than have to go back to exchange it.

Actually...torch red touch up on a mag red might look pretty cool. Then you are sure to have the only one that is that color!!
