I've never heard of $1,600 for a windshield. Either it was one of those special windshield/hooker deals, or I would make a conserted effort to steer a wide swath around Burke's.

To be clear, that price doesn't have anything to do with Tim Burke. The $1600 price is a "roughly", based on the price of the windshield itself, which is $1400, from a highly respected local bodyshop. I don't have an exact price for the replacement because I got a quote for other work all at the same itme.

If someone wants to tell me an OEM HUD windshield should be substantially less, I'm all ears.

Well I wasn't going to respond to all this but after what has happened and even more so the irresponsibleness of many truckers including one this morning I have to agree that some truckers act less than professional when they are behind the wheel.

Between SR436 and SR434, I-4 is four lanes deep. I could see them up ahead causing a traffic problem by running abreast each other causing traffic to back up. Unlike other vehicles who easily move past them in the outside lane and keep traffic flowing, they drag on for miles and miles trying to pass each other. I was holding back trying let them all sort out their situation and get back over. It was because all this that they stirred up all the debris on the road and pitched the rock back at me.

Likewise, I've seen them throw huge chunks of their tires off constantly causing damage to other peoples cars, putting the road rangers at risk to remove the debris they leave behind. Yet they are never held accountable.

And this morning coming through a local sub-division road just as I approached the intersection just outside a school zone, some dumb azz trucker decides to pull out directly in front of me pulling a right on red with a solid flow of traffic behind me while he cuts off the entire intersection causing cars to pull off the road to avoid his stupid maneuver and I had to hit the brakes to allow him to pull his dumb azz maneuver. A car would not have had enough room to make that right on red with that spacing much less a semi-truck even thinking about it. No this jerk put everyone at risk because he didn't want to wait for the light to turn green.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion truckers are some of the worst drivers on the roads and drive irresponsibly.

None different then those characters driving these trucks weighing 10's of 1000s of pounds with no regards to what they are doing. Just last year several of them plowed right through a traffic accident killing the fireman who had stopped to render aid to the victims of the accident. It's guy's like that who belong behind bars for life like that one is now doing.

I have an appointment to have my vehicle repaired on Saturday... thanks to a trucker my insurance company has to pay as well as I do, and my pristine Corvette has to be ripped apart. And my rates will probably go up because of their stupidity.

When I had a C4 LT-1 ( my first Vette), I got a chip from the highway in my glass.

I had it replaced by the local glass people.

No fuss, no muss, after it was done, couldn't tell, that it had been replaced.

"probly better"? sounds like you're the one sleeping with the truck drivers.

Default I'm with you..

Some trucks take great joy in a "road jam". The New York thruway is 2 lanes for MANY miles going up to Buffalo. Come and try this out if you want to see how they play thier little games.
The I-87 from Albany to Canada is not much better...Come try out the Canadian truckers for awhile...Talk about rude!

Theres just as many 'bad' truck drivers as there is 'bad' pleasure vehicle drivers. Never get away from it.
I live in one of the mudiest, dusty, gravel and 90% of the vehicles on the alaska highway are truckers, Ive gotten rocks to the grill and windshield (in the work truck of course, not the vette) mostly from trucks yes, but them little cars and pick ups can throw em pretty good too.

J-J

Just had a new windshield put in my 01 coupe. Find someone who has done a few before. I called a few places before I found a shop that knew what they were doing, they even took the time to explain and show me what was involved. Took 2 guys about 3 hours to do it taking their time and treating it as if it were their car.
Get new seal/weatherstripping, the old may or may not come off and be reusable. I did have to return mine and have the seal readjusted on the passenger side, it leaked where the roof and windshield pillar meet.
Mine had the same spec wind shield as yours and the shop was able to get the same for replacement. Insist on o.e.m. or o.e.m. spec glass. My insurance company tried to give me the run around about this, had to get pretty insistant about it.
Look around a bit, maybe get a reccomendation from a body shop you trust, thats how I found the shop I used.

Good luck, Greg

Take yours to Burke Corvettes in Maitland. Best Vette bodyshop in central Florida.

Good luck!
Go out and get some comprehensive insurance quick. It is cheap. Nowhere near as expensive as Liability or Collision and it covers a lot of things besides glass.

Had mine replaced about a year ago, damn thing is, I caught another stone off a rock truck and have a new chip. The crack is starting to spread, guess I will need a new windshild again very soon. Here are some pic of the last replacement. A new piece of rubber molding was used for the new windshield.

The ins. co won't raise your rates for a comprehensive claim. HUD windshields are expensive and will probably run $1100 installed.

Well with four bullet points listed under the glass only claims information, this being the fourth:

Reduced cost = Reduced Premium - The lower overall claim cost helps to keep premiums low.

Is certainly open language for the ins co to do just that. Increase premiums.

As I said the claim was made, it's being repaired Saturday with Safelite. They assure me of experience with these vehicles and I can watch.

We will just have to see if your assumption is true or not.

I just had my 06 f 150 chipped but it was my own damn fault I happened to be on their freeway and I am supposed to stay home
My favorite is when the speed limit is 70 and you are doing 78 they get on your *** and finally pass you then the next little hill yhey are down to 60 and you pass them and the **** starts all over again. They dont want to go 2mph slower than they want to go but they dont mind making you go 18 mph slower than you want to go.
Now if you are a professional driver this does not apply to you but you know there are a lot of really rude truckers out there.
I would like to know what a trucker on his day off in his car does when he has 30 tons 5 feet from his ***?
