Default Key FOB Problem!!!!

I keep having to resynchronize my keyless entry remote to my car. EVERY time the car is parked for a while... I cannot unlock it with the remote until I hold the LOCK and UNLOCK for longer than 7 seconds (to reprogram) This usually works and I can then use my remote... but the next time I return to my car... The remote will not unlock the car and I have to do the process again.

I have already replaced the battery in the remote. Does anyone have any ideas??? This is very irritating. BTW... my car is a 2000 6-speed convertible.

Unless you are in “programming mode” through the DIC (the car’s computer), simply holding down the two buttons on the remote does NOT reprogram the fob to the car.

Sounds like you need a new fob. Corvettes came with two fobs. Do you have the second fob? If not, get a spare and try using that fob for a while, as a test to eliminate the fob as the problem.

You may have to have your car re-learn your fob, and to do this, you do:
1. Turn key to the on position.
2. Press the option button until the DIC screen is blank.
3. Hold the reset button for 2 seconds.
4. Press the reset again, and you should see something like "Learning Fob 1" or something to that effect.
5. Push both the lock and unlock at the same time on the fob for 15 seconds, and it should be reprogrammed to the car.

Pretty easy stuff, actually.

Thanks for the info... I followed the "Resynchronizing Your Transmitter" instructions in the owners manual page 2-11. It states that if you hold the Lock and Unlock buttons together for longer than 7 seconds... The horn will chirp and the remote will be synched. I do this and it works... but I have to do it every time.

Dont resynchroniz your transmitter....re-instruct or re-learn your fob. Follow the directions in your manual or look above t "CMYC5GO", he listed the steps for you.

10-4 on that.... Thanks for the input guys! I will try to reprogram through the DIC. Any sources for reasonably priced remotes if my remote is bad? I have only one remote.

Ken Fichtner or Fred Bean's (both forum vendors) or your local dealership.

You might also try cleaning the contacts inside your fob before buying a new one. Some people have cleaned the contact points with a pencil eraser, but I prefer electrical contact cleaner spray. Spray a small amount on a soft cloth and gently clean the contacts under each rubber button. Also clean the contact areas for the battery. After you do this you will need to re-program (re-learn) the fob again thru the DIC.

Cleaning helped my fob for a while, but I eventually had to buy a new one.

New FOBS are only around $35-40 bucks. Buy a new one.

Not for a 2000 - I paid $90 for my new one.
2000 fobs are different than 97-99 and 01-04.

Mine did the same thing recently. Ended up getting a new fob and that solved the problem.

Default Might try to bend tabs on remote

Hi,

You may want to try and bend the little tabs up that are in the battery compartment inside the FOB. It is possible that the tabs from the battery are not making good contact to the circuit board inside the FOB. Obviously be careful not to bend them to far up as to break. You may also want to clean the place on the circuit board where these tabs from the battery hit the board. Possibly the connection pad could be gummed up. If you don't have contact cleaner, try rubbing carefully with the eraser from a pencil. Just do it carefully and then make sure all the eraser remains are completely removed. Then reprogram the FOB through the DIC. It might be worth a shot.
