Default test drive for repairs...how normal?

Had three service codes pop up then go away, service active handling, service ABS, and service traction control...pulled key out for a minute or so and put back in, no more codes. Friend of mine says it's a known issue and to get it in before warranty expires...got a call just now saying they are replacing EBCM to fix the problem, then will need a "good road test to make sure everyting is ok"...so in other words, dealer gonna be out joy-riding? or is this legit? Asked how much of a road test, said ten miles...

Was in vegas this weekend and overheard a conversation between a bartended and a customer about vettes. Customer said teh worst thing in the world about vettes is they come attached with a GM dealer. Am really beginning to believe it.

I would wait at the dealer for the repair to be done and then ride along with the tech

Yes they need a good road test. A lot of dealers do not road test enough. However, Chevrolet dealers are no worse than dealers for any other car make. There are 4 Chevy dealers in my local area and I have had service done by 3 of them with excellent results at all 3. The mechanics and service managers at all 3 dealerships know each other and also know who is best equipped to fix certain problems. The dealer I go to most often is a dealer for Chevy, BMW and Toyota and does all his service in the same garage. They all get the same level of service and the pressure is on the BMW mechanics not to screw up since any bad publicity about their maintenance efforts could affect the maintenance business of the two high volume brands which is where all the money is made.

The EBCM is an hour repair....they should be able to fix it Friday and you should pick it up on Friday. I brought mine in the same day the part came in, it was fixed in one hour, was test driven about one mile to clear and reset the DIC, and I drove home. Don't leave it overnight......

A road test should be done, but I'm real strict with letting any people drive my car, except my father. I would totally be In that car with the tech for the test drive. Some of these Techs are 19 year old kids for God sake!!!!! Kids only get to look at my car. If the tech was a kid, I wouldn't even let him test It with me In the car!!! I would go to another dealer If I had to...Kids=I hope you have great Insurance on your car lol**That's just me. Good luck with your car

first, i would check to see if you have a certified vette technician at the dealer you are looking to do business with. those techs usually arent the 19 yr old kids. my best friend is a chevy tech so i know a little about how the shop operates. there are 3 certified vette techs at his dealership and they are all at least in their 30s and test drives are just to make sure everything is ok. how pissed would you be if you keep having to come back??

good luck

In general dealerships do not road-test vehicles after a repair, imagine the liability of such a practice! Now that doesn't mean it never happens, if the problem only happens at 35mph then a test drive is most likely.

Corvettes on the other hand seem to need more test drives that most other vehicles combined, especially after difficult repairs like oil changes...
