You're right, they are not cheap. But, they do offer a sense of security when out on the road.

And all the road noise and harsh ride is included in that price, no extra charge. Just changed mine out at 32K, went with the Goodyear F1 GS D3's. Major improvement, less noise, smoother ride, and sticks to the road like never before. Car and Driver evaluation was very helpful in my choice, once I got past the strange tread pattern, it was a no brainer. The F1 GS D3's do have a slightly narrower tread. Square shoulders versus round shoulders being the difference.
