Default New Tires Needed / Recommendations?

Would really like to get runflats for my '04 Z06, but to my knowledge nobody makes them.

So...

Looking for new tire recommendations for stock wheels. I'd like all around ability, but especially need something that's good in the rain. The stock Goodyear F1's are stellar in the dry but abysmal in wet--in my experience, anyway (I seem to hydroplane all over the place). I'm not getting them again.

I have 27k miles on my GY F1's and have about 3k left, based on my driving style.

Thanks for the tips.

Recommendation -- do a forum search. This has been discussed over and over.

That said, I have Toyo Proxis T1-S's on my '03 Z and love'm. They have excellent wet and dry handling, low road noise, and I've used them on the track and they handle very predictably. I'd definitely consider buying them again, or trying the T1-Rs, which are supposed to be great also.

Firehawk wideovals are a great tire for street use. They handled well in the rain, on the street, and the track. Price is also great with the Firehawk tires.

another choice out there is the BFGoodrich KDW 2's which i just picked up on tirerack for a decent price. they are not as good as the BFG D/R's i was running..but they still grip well.

Anybody have Michelin PS2's? Tirerack ratings & reviews seem to be good, especially comments about wet weather traction.

Thanks. Yes I did search, and found 222 entries on tires in Z06 forum and after 3 pages didn't find anything that fit my subject header. I don't post too often on the forum so figured I'd get right to the point--and besides, there's always someone who might have the same question.

How many miles on your Toyo's?

I have been using the Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals, mainly a city street driven Z. They seem to perform all-around pretty well, the main thing I like though is the price. About $200 for the rears and around $150 for the fronts from Discount Tire here in Denver.

I bought BFG KDW2s when I replaced my F1SCs at 8000 miles. I think they are excelent. Very quiet on the road, great traction wet or dry, and a smooth predictable loss of traction in hard track conditions. I highly recomend these.

I bought my '01 Z06 with Michelin Sport PS2s on it (about 60% left). From a dead stop/slow roll the rear does want to wheel hop sometimes under moderate to heavy throttle. Otherwise, for aggressive street/highway driving they are a perfect match to the Z06's capabilities. I am very impressed with these 'street' tires and they do not yet feel inferior to the Nitto RIIs and DRs that were on my C4. They seem to be very stable in the rain, and only noisey on certain road surfaces (still 17"s on the front).
If I could afford them, I would definitely buy them when I'm ready for new (but wider rears?)!

Thanks.

Having driven at 45-50 mph while on the Merritt Parkway going up into (and back from) CT on Sunday, I'm in need of new tires...fast.

i wanted to go with z06 size on my cpe. went with these and love them. i live in the wonderfull sunny state of oregon ( not ) and these are great in the rain. and they are far better ride and handleing then the runflats i had. the fronts seem to be much wider looking than the runflats being two sizes bigger, the backs i think if done over i would have looked at wider than 295 series. the hook up is far improved over the runflats also. the large wheel lip protector is pretty cool also

"A VERY good tire" (PS2) vs. "value tire" (Wide Oval), IMHO.
OK, I'm NEVER humble.
The PS2's are about the same price as replacement GY F1's.
Wide Ovals are a lot cheaper, and a lot of people like them.

Search on "PS2" and "rain".

I've had my PS2's at a steady state 80 mph on a "flooded" Interstate,
and they were very stable and responded well to steering input.
VERY confidence building.

My brother in his '04 Cobra SVT with brand new GY F1's didn't feel like keeping up.
Not in those conditions, although he usually drives faster than I do.

If you aren't into "combined dry and rain" stuff,
a lot of other tires are VERY, VERY good for less money.

The PS2s are pricy. OK, if that's an issue don't buy them. However I believe you get what you pay for. I drive my Z06 in ALL weather, and the PS2s are excellent in the dry and fantastic in the wet. I've even driven them in snow which I don't recommend) without any disaster befalling me.
