I'm thinking about getting a GMPP warranty from
Dennis Fichtner
Fichtner Chevrolet. I bought a 04 Z51 with 9000 miles, the factory warr runs out in Aug of 07.
From what i hear the GMPP is very good, just wanted some info from GMPP users, how they liked it, or they disliked it.
I have the GMPP. My convertible top is rubbing the paint on the toneau cover. There's a TSB for it (thicker rubber seal) GMPP won't cover it. They refer to no weatherstrip clause. My L/H turn signal lens has small cracks on the rear edge. They say it's not covered. (I'm going to check with another GM service agency. However, they did foot the bill for a new rear end. Repaired leak on left side twice. Rearend got noisy, so they replaced it under warranty. More than paid for the insurance.
Should you buy the warranty if you have headers, intake, exhaust, shifter,etc...? Chevy will says that since I changed something, it affects the warranty. I just know how Chevy is. They would cover the fuel pump, they cant say my headers affected that, could they? Buy or not to Buy?
I bought the GMPP from Ken right after I bought my 2001. Since then, the following items have all been fixed under GMPP:
Knock sensor issue, ran rough
column lock, towed and fixed
door lock modules, both doors
3 pulleys, bearings failing
ECBM traction control anti lock brake etc. issue, replaced ECBM
Intermittent turn signals, replacement hazard switch
My dealer, "MORITZ CHEVROLET" didn't know me from adam and they have been 1st class a fair every trip. And the work has been done right the 1st time too!

If your mod is the direct cause or something of your mod fails then GM can refuse to pay on a warranty. They just can't say that your headers were the cause of your door modules going bad and they just can't void your warranty. I'm sure they can make your life hell if you do have mods but for me, so far all my warranty work was not mod related.
I got the GMPP for my 01 and it's been a real money saver. I've had all of the work done at Van Chevrolet in Dallas and it was done right the first time. They have replaced a headlight door motor, driver and passenger window regulators, hazard lights switch, oxygen sensor and air check valve, A/C control module, A/C compressor, and driver seat switch. It was a $100 deductable per trip and they paid for a rental car.
I have GMPP but never used it yet in the year I've had it. HOWEVER I will buy from Dennis when this one runs out. Wouldn't want to be without it. Too expensive to fix these babies. It's worth the peace of mind.
I bought one from Dennis (great service!) for my 04, and even though I haven't needed it yet, the security and peace of mind it provides is worth every penny spent!
Manufacturer's warranty are always a better way to go then a 3rd Party warranty. I sell warranties so I know. I bought a GMPP warranty for my 02 Z with 12k miles on it. About 2 weeks after I bought it, the EBCM, ABS, Traction Control went out, would've been $3k to fix. GMPP covered it, had a rental for 3 days, cost me $0. I paid $1,074 for the 4yr/32k GMPP Major Guard Plan. So it paid for itself 3 times over, and I still have 2.5 years left.
I will go ahead and get the GMPP before my fact warr runs out in Aug of 07. My 04 z51 only has 9000 miles, so around May of 07 i will call Dennis.
So far no probs with my Vett , and dont really plan any big mods, maybe a catback and CIA.
Chas
You don't have to do it that early. I corresponded w/ Dennis and since the GMPP starts on the day you purchase it, why not maximize the life of your factory warranty and wait at least until July or a couple of weeks before your factory expiration. Dennis can give you the in service date in '04 + three years will be your expiration date. My factory warranty on my '04 Z06 expires April 7, 2007 so to be safe I'll probably lock and load with Dennis a couple weeks beforehand.
