Default Sirius Antenna

New here, so excuse me if this is the wrong place, but just got an 03 yellow vert, and looking for suggestions for where and how to mount the antenna for the sirius? Is there an option to the magnetic one that was supplied? Thanks!

remove a tail light.....reach in and mount it to the little ledge above the license plate with velcro....you can drill thru the big storage compartment and run the wire back into the car...

You can mount it on the rear bumper using the mag mount. Route the antenna through the interior into the rear compartment area. You'll have to drill a small hole big enough to pass the radio end connector into the trunk, then up to the sirius unit. Just remove one of the inner tail lamp lenses, and look down behind the facia, you'll see the rear metal bumper. Clean a spot off and put your antenna there, out of sight. It works great. Do a search on this and check the audio forum, there should be some install pics there.

Or you can just paint it to colormatch and then mount around the trunk area.. which will allow for best reception.

I've been pretty lucky with just resting my XM antenna in the trunk (centered beneath the back window). But I've heard that inside the bumper (mentioned earlier in this post) is a great place to put it.

I put mine on the bottom corner of the windshield driver's side. Threaded the wire around the end of the door, past the bottom of the A-pillar, end of the steering colum, around the top of the center console, down the side of it, wrapped the excess wire and stuck inside the ashtray hole behind the Starmate receiver. Everything is hidden and the antenna is in full view of the satellite but not sticking out anywhere. Best of all, no drilling. Good luck.

The Monk!

This actually works? I thought the antenna had to have line-of-sight for the satalite. I sometimes loose signal going under bridges, I can't imagine mounting it inside the body.

Take out your defroster grille, thread the antenna wire down behind the dash (you will need a straightened coathanger, be careful, DON'T FORCE IT!) double side tape the antenna to the top of the defroster, and put the grille back in. It's now out of sight, and with the rake of the windshield, the antenna still has a clear view of the sky.

Mine is under the bumper on the steel support. Invisible and great reception.

Works fine, and suprisingly very little signal loss.

I have mine just sitting on the dash right now. I am going to put it in the bumper later.

Why can't you pass the cable through the "Vent" that is in the back on the driver side? I am not going to drill a hole in my car. Never do anything that you can't undo

My truck has a Sirius radio installed from the factory. I lose the signal going under bridges as well. I think that's the best you can do with a satelite system.

I didn't believe it either so I hooked up my sirius and checked inside the car under the glass, inside the bumper and on top of the bumper (outside the car). The glass lost one bar of reception...the bumper and outside were identical....mine's mounted inside the rear bumper like everyone says and it works mint.

Its a small hole through the back wall of the rear compartment, directly behind the license plate area. Only about 3/8 inch, enough to pass the plug connector through. Sealed up with silicone. Carpet trim in the inside rear compartment wall covers all the wiring. Not exactly sure where the pass through vent your referencing is at, or if it will give you a clean shot to the rear bumper. Your call. I like to use the tools once in awhile.

Wow. Going to love being part of this community. Question posted for only a couple of hours, and great information and help already. Looks like I have my first weekend project for the new toy. Guess that will be a never ending thing.

Thanks all.

I wrapped the antenna in saran wrap....nice and smooth so you can't tell it wrapped.....then placed a heavy duty rare earth magnet inside under the trunk lid, centered on the lid. The magnet holds the antenna on the hood perfectly and the antenna holds the magnet in place. If you go really fast or make really hard turns..it stays put.

Ran the wires through the trunk along the outer edge into the truck compartment and to the reciever unit. When you close the lid it holds the wire nice and tight too.

Also, easy to remove and store. Just attach the magnet to the trunk hinge so you don't lose it.

My 2cents

Default Let's get Sirius

Mine's a '99 FRC. Try this:

Remove right most tail light. You'll notice two nuts holding an aluminum bracket to the interior tub. Measure the distance between them. Cut a piece of scrap metal (suggest aluminum) such that you can use the two bolt shafts to attach it to the tub. Drill holes for the bolts. Make the metal piece long enough to span the bolts and bend 90 degrees such that you have a ledge wide enough to mount the antenna and parallel to the ground. Loosen the nuts on the bolts, slip the fabricated bracket over the bolts, replace the nuts. Don't over tighten them. Using the 'stcky pad' that should have come with your radio set (If not, get 3M weather srtip 2 sided tape at auto parts store), fasten the antenna (facing up) to the bracket. Drill a small hole up behind the trunk light area and feed the antenna cable through. Run your antenna wire through the interior to your radio. Reinstall the tail light. The rear fascia is plastic and won't attenuate the received signal. Mine works like a charm, no need to mount on the body.

I have XM in my Tahoe and I don't lose signal under bridges or in parking garages!
