Default windshield crack...help please

Well I was on the Pa. Turnpike and a rock from heaven rained down on my 2002 coupe windshield. Tomorrow I take it to the glas repair place to see if they can do something other than replace it. The crack is a little star smaller than a dime.. but I have when my car is not perfect!

Anyone have a crack repaired ... how much if so and if not how much for a new windshield!!!!

Thanks all,
MCM

I have had it done a few times.. Twice in one month believe it or not. Most places do a real good job. I went to a place here in Virgina called Glass Masters. They have done such a good job I don't remeber where the crack was.. Good Luck!!

I had a chip/crack repair done on my truck today. I wasn't extremely happy with the results, but it is better than it was before. You can tell where the chip was, and there are still imperfections. But it saved me from forking out $500 for a new windshield, and I was glad that the insurance company foot the bill, which was $60 for the repair. Plus, the repair it is guaranteed not to spread.

If it's the size of a dime or smaller it can be filled. If done right it's hardly noticeable

I see TV commercials for Glass Masters all the time...some 90 year old woman (looks and sounds like she is toothless) telling you to bring your car into Glass Masters for windshield repair...

Although not on the Vette, I've repaired similar windshield damage myself on two occasions. I bought a windshield crack repair kit from the auto parts store. It consists of a syringe with a epoxy filler that you inject into the crack using a special attachment. That was almost 9 years ago and it's still holding up. If you do it right its hard to see the damaged area unless you look closely. I recommend you give it shot.

I've had a small chip repaired in mine before. They use the epoxy filler and while you can still faintly see where the chip was, it is much better than before. With my insurance company, they waive the deductible for repairs like this so no cost to me. I think the insurance company pays out about $50 or so for the repair.

Well I went to my local auto glass place and they did an excellent job! Steve's Auto Glass in N.E. Philly.... $ 50.00 and my chip and star is almost invisible.

I recommend tha epoxy process to any C5 owners who have the same little rock chip in their windshield.

Thanks all!

your insurance would cover this cost . most insurance companies will waive the deductible if you repair rather than replace . call them and check .

In SC it doesn't cost anything, part of your auto insurance. Usually the repair centers come to your place of work and do it right in the parking lot. However, with a vette I had to bring it to their shop.

I have had mine fixed 2 times already. If its a Z06, make sure you tell them that the glass is thinner than a normal vette. I know the guy that fixed mine said they had to be extra careful with Z06's because of the thickness. I am not "Glass Master" so I have to listen to the professional. It cost me 35 bucks for them to come out each time and fix the rock chip, and unless your looking for it, it is not noticable. By the way, State Farm wont cover it unless you make a comp claim, and then you have the deductable.
Good Luck
