[QUOTE=Pistonsfan102]Allright right now im looking to purchase either a 98 C5 or a 05 Mustang GT. I really don't know really which one to get. I really want the Vette though.
I think you've answered your question. Get the one YOU want. My brother has been a Mustang man for years, he has a 65 convertible. When the new models came out it was just a matter of time before he got one. I think Ford did a better job of getting the original concept of the old Mustang updated than GM did on the GTO. I like the way his car looks. That being said, I have a 98 vert that I wouldn't trade for his
for any reason. We cruise together & each get a kick out of seeing the other's car as we drive. The key is, you can respect all cars for what they are, but there is only one favorite that you really have to have.
We rented an 05 convertible stang when I was on my Honeymoon in Hawaii.
I have a 98 vette (coupe)
I was VERY unimpressed with the Mustang in pretty much every way. Was funny, because when I made the reservation for the Mustang.. I didnt have the vette... so when I got to Maui.. and they said the car was a Mustang.. I was like "OH yeah!! ... now I wont miss the Vette"
Boy was I wrong..
This is a Pro/Con list from a NON car guy.
CONS:
- The Mustang Felt VERY CHEAP ... everything was plasticky feeling
- Everyone and thier mother had one.
- Handling was nonexistent compared to the vette.
- Power was weak as hell
Pros:
- Convertible top worked pretty damn good.. that was cool
- more interior space
- MUCH better visibility
- Being a LESS showey car.. I could park it anywhere without stressin
honestly it's what you're looking for in a car...but for the 26k+ it'll cost you to get a new Mustang GT you could pick up a z06 which will blow the doors off the the mustang...If you NEED the back seat then you have your answer.
I was thinking of the same thing but I had 2 mustangs before (68 fastback and 97 vert) and I wanted something diff. Test drive both a vette and the stang, the smile on your face will tell you which one to get
you would have to spend hundreds to get into the catagory of a vette. I was looking at a 03 cobra which has more power or possibly a saleen. I just picked up a 98 c5 a month ago and it's 10x more classy and i only payed 16 then knocked 5 off for my trade in. Basically i payed 11k for one of the best cars money can buy. Your comparing borderline exotic to a car that might go straight fast and thats it. Just to think i almost got an rx7 or a mustang...now I will NEVER not own a vette. Already looking to get a 2nd one for my wife.
Yeah they have their probs, mine sure does, but it out ways things heavily when every time you drive it people stare in awe.
Believe it or not, this is a very tough decision for people other than those on this biased forum. I would have to lean towards the Stang since it's much newer, still has a factory warranty, has a much larger aftermarket, and dare I say... looks better than a coupe.
I was pondering this very question a few months back.... Take a brand new 06 mustang vert or a 01 Vette vert. It is like choosing between my dream car and a car that is accessible to anyone. The Vette is a true sports car and an american Icon. The stang is just a Ford. Sure it will have that new car smell for a while but after that it will stangk like all the others.... Do what you want but for me it was a no brainer. I love my vette and wouldn't trade it for a rustang
I have a 98 Coupe and I absolutely love it to death!
Strong car.
BUT.... I'm gonna sell it to get a Viper in a month.
Mustang??? Yea, if you're 19 years old.
Corvette is a man's car.
The only advantage of the Ford is the fact that it is new and has a warranty. Also it has a quasi back seat. Other than that, I would shop around for a good used C5, but I am definitely biased. I also drove a convertible Mustang while on Vacation at Hawaii. I don't like to judge a car when it is a rental and God knows what has been done to it, however my opinion is that is was not too well built. A lot of the plastic pieces were already coming apart in the trunk area, the light in the trunk was hanging by its wires. I had the V6 model and the power was anemic and the transmission very sloppy. The Hummer H3 I rented later in my vacation had more get up and go and it is a considerably heavier vehicle. The C5s have their quirks but the power, handling and looks are awesome and the money you save buying the Vette could be set aside as a maintenance fund. Just my two cents.
Snap, NO HE DIN'T!!! OH I disagree there bud. I love stangs and the new one when lowered with some rims looks good, the coupe vette looks just like the other vettes save a long, aerodynamic back glass which enables this chassis to go beyond 200mph MUCH easier than a square-faced stang. CAR OF THE YEAR and all that stuff. The rest looks exactly the same. With a H/C job, this car goes insane. Mustang needs much more work to be as able a supercar. I mean, it cost 50k new for a reason.
I have owned 3 foxbodies and two new edge stangs so I know the difference.
Mustang is a damn good car for the money, and I love em. If I couldn't afford a vette that is where I would be (or a SS Ram Air )
I had a similar experience last year. In September of '05 I test drove a new Mustang GT. It was a real nice car. At that time they weren't dealing very much on them. The test car I drove they were graciously going to knock $500 off the sticker! "What a deal" on a car with 3,000 miles on it. Dealer suggested I come back in a few weeks when the '06's were in. To make a long story short, I got tired of fooling with FUDD Motor Co. I found my '02 EB vert with about 40,000 miles on the clock in OKC and haven't looked back. I've had NO mechanical problems with the car. I have had all the fluids replaced and belts and hoses and bought a set of tires. Thats all. BTW how many Mustangs do you see on the road? Seems like they are everywhere doesn't it!
My budget is about $21,000. I'm going to college next year and I have a full ride, so in return my folks are getting me a new car.
Last week I was really leaning toward the Mustang, but now its the Vette. A Vette is Vette - true American muscle and I guess thats I like so much about it.
Right now I'm just waiting for the right car with low miles, good condition, at the right price.
My dad has an O3' Vette and I love the car. The only time I get to drive it by myself though is when I give it a full detail.
