Default Battery Fit Advice needed

Replacing battery in my '04 Vert.
Having read all the archives (or until my eyes bled) I saw all the pros and cons of most brands/types, etc.
Didn't find an exact fit for Optima on their site, and even reading forums, I found that people had to modify their cables or tie downs or something. Exide website did't give me a fit sheet.
And their seems to be nuances for fit from all battery mfg's from 2000-2004..ie everything that bolted into a 2000 or even an '03 does not necessarily bolt in exact fit into an '04..don't know why.
So i'm open to optima or exide or diehard (or others) and not looking for all the advice and passions that many have about one brand over another (other than advice about models/brands prone to leaking), just really looking for correct fit (by make/model number if you have it) , so the stock battery cables will fit and stock tie down/bolt down will work. I guess what i'm after is that when i get the battery home to bolt in that i don't cuss and spit trying to get it to fit right...(and still use my battery compartment cover. if you have an '04 and have replace the battery with an exact fit, let me know.

I have the Optima 34/78 in my 2000 and it's a perfect fit w/no mods needed. Not sure about your 04.

I installed the Exide Orbital in my 2K with no issues. The Exide website indicates the Corvette requires a group 78 battery and the Orbital model is the ORB78DT-84. The only difference with stock is it's a dual terminal battery with top and side terminals, so I just bolted the stock battery lugs on the cables to the side terminals.

Here are the specs on all Exide batteries:

http://www.exide.com/pdf/exide_specs_april_2003.pdf

An '04 shows a group 86 battery which looks very close to a Group 78.
