Im new here and just picked up my 01 z06 a few months ago. I love the car but I have noticed on this forum that there is talk of changing thermostats on these vettes? Why is that. Mine runs anywhere from 200 to 220. Is that to hot? Just curious and thanks for your time
your temps are about average and you have NO reason to change your thermostat.
The theory behind changing the thermostat is to "lower the opperating temperature" of the car - WRONG a lower temp thermostat will not lower the operating temp - it only lowers the temp at whichyour thermostat opens fully. If you put in a 160 degree thermostat you car will still run at 200-220 once it's fully warmed up.
If you want to keep your temps down you have two choices: make sure you have no trash/ debris on your radiator and/or have the on/off temps for your fans lowered.
But let me repeat - you temps are NORMAL.
I believe (not positive, but pretty sure), that the stock thermostat opens at 190 degrees. I agree with above that the only way to actually lower the operating temp is to reprogram the fans to turn on at a lower temp.
