Default Stupid Newbie questions

Hey guys these have probably been answered already but.....

1.) Sometimes I get this idiot light that comes on and says 1st to 4th shift only, my friends sychros where effed up because the first owner did'nt shift that way all the time. On older vettes there is a plug to disable this is there one on the c-5 and if so where? And is it hard to do yourself?

2.) What is the downside of having run flat tires?

Downside to run flats

noise, ride, handling, cost.

Opinions vary, but I wouldn't go without my run flats. As far as the other question, I have an automatic.

I think direct links to vendors are prohibited here, but I know at least one of the sponsors for this forum carries a "C5 Skip Shift Eliminator" in their online catalog. Go to the vendors page https://www.corvetteforum.com/vendor/vendors.php and do a search for the first vendor in Atlanta. Looks like a simple install - need to order one for myself.

I guess I could live with the stupid 1-4 shift if I didn't live on a hill with a light at the bottom. It's a royal PITA to have gun it through 1st to be able to get it into 2nd and avoid the 1-4 program as I start up the hill. The 'Vette is plenty strong, but the hill's pretty steep too, and 4th is just too much lugging. My neighbors hate me now. I tell them it's the fault of the guy around the corner who I heard works for the EPA.

If you go up a thousand or so rpm's after 1-4 shift it will go away you can shift to second.

If I shift on accident during 1-4 shift period I just go to 3rd.

try summit they sell the part for 30.00 it takes about ten minutes to do once you have the rear drivers side jacked up. just unplug and plug its really simple. i did it about a month ago you still get the light on the dash but the shifter wont make you go into fourth.

as far as runflats they ride rougher and i heard they dont handle as well as aftermarket tires.
