I'm new to the forum and corvettes in general. I am about to buy a 2003-2004 and am wondering where I can get an in-dash navigation unit installed. I've been doing some research and it seems there isn't any that really fit... so some dash modifications need to be done. I live in Maryland so I can travel to DC, and VA as well to get the work done. I found this pic thats exactly what I'm looking to have done once I get mine. http://onfinite.com/libraries/493722/9f4.jpg
So if anybody knows any good shops or individuals in my area who will do this... please hook a brotha up
Put your post up in the audio and electronics section. They actually have a section on the top for members who have had good expiriences with installers. Very cool system you are looking to do. Maybe there is an installer close to you?
Just don't let anyone tell you that a Double DIN unit will NOT fit without having to move the HVAC and modify or remove the ashtray/lighter area.
Arguably it is a tight fit, but it can be done. A small amount of dremmel work on the original radio basket has to be done, the rest is just making it fit. While I have still not completely resolved the radio bezel, I'm working on it. A winter project for me.
Good luck
What system is that? Its freakin sweet Is it touch-screen as well?

You can get the 1.5 DIN flip out screens which will fit without mods. The only snag is unless you reverse the unit and the HVAC it covers the AC vents. Its also a reasonably complex installation.
I have the AVIC X1R (Euro). I think the present US model is the AVIC N3.
This is awesome..... I really do have some options. I've thought about the flip up units but it does bother me that it covers the vent. I figure I can spend about $2500 for the unit and installation. I'm thinking the Pioneer AVIC-Z1.... it seems like the best bang for the buck and i've seen it as low as $1499. I'd still need to buy the accessories like the ipod and bluetooth hook ups but it's not too much.... like $150 extra.

Thanks for the replies!

The vent is no big deal so don't let it put you off. I survived 2 Vegas summers without a problem.
That said the Double DIN units are very nice if you can find a good mod for the console.
Thats a great system, It looks like the C6 Nav I think. I used to have the portable Magellan = All of USA Canada & Mexico...Great easy to use system and looks awesome at night. I now have the new Garmen with 4" screen with live traffic reports among many other things. With the Megellan there was a seperate plug In for the traffic, but It looked messy on my dash and was a pain. The garman has It built In and It's just a better overall Nav system In general. Best of luck

I started out looking at portables, then decided on the flip ups. But after seeing all the pics of in-dash installs, I thought I'd see if I could afford to do that instead. With a limit of $2500 it seems like it's going to be tough since I cant do the work my self, or should I say i wont do it. I want it to have a factory fit and finish and I know I'd never achieve that. Maybe a better solution will come my way.
