I had a big argument with my Dealer over this issue and GM sided with him. I bought mine Dec 02 but put it on the road Apr 03.

Warranty starts when the car is bought not when its titled. GM wouldn't budge on that so I lost 4 months warranty.

The reason I say that is no dealer is going to sell a car open MSO becuase of the liablity that it would put on the dealership.
The guy who has the car now may have the MSO. I know when I have purchased new cars from out of state I received the MSO from the selling dealer so I could register the car in my state. If he just bought the car and did not register it he could still have the MSO. Some people do that especially if they have access to a dealer plate.

OK I got a question - first off I don't see where the YEAR of the car was stated in any of these posts.
Let's assume the car is a 2004. Let's also assume some guy bought this car, never registered it and kept it in the garage. Zoom forward to Dec 2006. Car owner decides to sell the car. You buy it and register it. What is left of the new car warranty? I would assume only 12 months. After all the car is an 04 and I believe what you get out of the Chevy dealer is "36 months from the date of purchase". It has nothing to do with registration.

He probably did not register it so that he would not have to pay the sales tax.

If you buy the vette put the money in an escrow account until a valid title is issued to you, that way you'll be safe If you think there is a problem.

This happened to me, when I purchased my 70 T-top from Jack Wall Chevrolet in Pasadena CA. Jack took one car every year for his car collection. He would add mods to suit himself. Mags, racing stripes, etc. He would license it, ( registered to the dealership ) to drive to and from the dealership, but sold the car as new with only a 100 miles. After ten months I took in for some minor warrantee work and was told that the warrantee was expired. The warrantee kicked in when Jack registered it.
