So who's faster in a race from a stop and a roll, the vette with the headers, xpipe, and no cats or the vette with the 3.90s?

I've had bolt ons for the past year, just got 3.90's a few weeks ago - with the headers (& a tune) you will feel power mostly above 3.5K and up and the sound is awesome, the car behaves a lot like a stocker but a lot stronger. With the gears the engine just revs and gets to the power band a heck of a lot quicker and you will use 6th a lot more. 3.90's will feel like you added another 30 HP.

Engine turns around 1900 rpm at 65mph, gas mileage has actually improved for me.

Trust me, you will end up doing both, I would get the gears first.
