I would take It there then, not a bad deal I guess. I don't know though~I change my own oil. If someone messes up an oil change they shouldn't be allowed within 10ft of the car. As to changing the oil once a year~ even though you drive 3k a year, non synthetic cars are recommended a change every (3months) or 3k miles.
With synthetic I would at least change the oil twice a year no matter how few miles I drove It.
Shortly after I bought my '96 back in '01, I decided it needed an oil change so I took it to the local Chevy dealer thinking some 50 year old man who was very well trained on Vettes would be changing my oil. Boy, was I wrong! Some 20 year old punk with an earring did the job after I had to go in the service area to open the hood for him as he didn't even know how to open the hood. Needless to say I have never taken my Vettes back there for oil changes. I do it myself.
Another tip to help keep your driveway or garage floor clean is to save the next plastic shower curtain or plastic table cloth your wife wants to discard. Before driving the car up the ramps I spread the plastic shower curtain out between the ramps and place my drain pan in position between the ramps. This helps speed the process and definitely keeps the area cleaner. I also tear about 10 or 12 paper towels apart and place them within reach so I will have a clean paper towel available at each point in the process. I place a plastic garbage can lid within close reach so as I soil the towels I toss them in the lid and then put all the empty bottles and oil filter box in the lid. This way, when you complete the job the clean-up is already mostly done. I also highly recommend wearing latex gloves(Dr's exam gloves) while doing the job. My son is a Paramedic so I learned from him how handy the disposable exam gloves are. They are also handy when painting anything and polishing your shoes. I keep a box of 100 in my shop at all times as they are very cheap and save lots of clean-up time.
By the oil change places, maybe. Perhaps they have a vested interest?
My wifes Chrysler PT with a turbo recommends every 5000 mi, and doesn't even require synthetic.
Every car Is different. The 3 month/3k mile was just what I've read In my previous cars owner manuals. That was back In the day though. I always use synthetic In all of my cars now. I would still change the oil at least twice a year If I drove 3k, driving those few miles It's possible the oil In his car could be sitting there for over six months without being driven & I don't think thats good. Just my opinion~
I don't mean to quibble (or go off topic too much) but when you say, "non synthetic cars are recommended a change every (3months) or 3k miles." you are expressing what is to be construed as "FACT." As something gotten from an authoritative source.
An opinion, in my opinion, would have had "I believe" or "in my opinion" in the front, at the end or somewhere within that sentence.
Here's another tip: A famous engine builder told us at a seminar on Sprint Car racing that they have found all manner of debris inside of new filters (and they use the best name brand racing filters). He recommended holding the filter upside down (hole down) and giving it a blast of air prior to installation. Apparently sometimes in the thread cutting process, packaging, handling, etc, "stuff" can get inside the filter, with potentially disastrous results. This could be an urban legend as I have never personnally found anything inside of the GM filters I use, but you can't be too careful.
