Default Oregon here we come

Hi guys,
It's been a couple of months since I last logged in. We are in the process of moving to Oregon. About a year ago I mentioned that I had to move to a lower elevation due to health concerns. We will be settling in Florence. Is their anyone on this forun that is a resident? I would like to know if there is an active Corvette club there. We have our current home listed, but as we all know the housing market sucks right now. We hope to be able to move in the next six months. We will be attending the SOCA event in Grants Pass this year as usual from were ever we live.

Just looked up Florence...right on the coast! Hwy 1 will be a great piece of road to exercise your vette. Check out the Motorsports park in White City near Medford. Hope its still there. Low speed (autocross speed) road course with several possible configurations inculding a nicely banked turn. Where are you coming "down" from?

I understand oxygen deprivation, and I live at "sea level" Good luck on the move.

WELCOME to Oregon! Where are you moving from? THere should be a club you can join, if not in FLorence, then in Eugene perhaps or north. I don't belong, but there are quite a few clubs in Oregon. You ought to post in the Pacific NW section and someone there will have lots of info for you. Cruisin the coast is fun, there are lots of little towns where 101 is the main street, so you get seen by tons of folks, if that is the type of cruisin you like. Traffic can get downright congested on the summer weekends. I like the highways to and from 101, to get inland through the coast range. Lots of curves, lots of beautiful forests. Again, welcome and enjoy the Pacific Northwest! Jon

There are two clubs near Florence, Pacific Coast Corvette Club in Coos Bay / North Bend
http://www.pacificcoastcorvetteclub.com/
and Oregon Coast Corvette Club in Newport (I don't believe they have a website but do a search)
Cascade Corvette Club, Eugene / Springfield has some members in Florence and we are about 60 miles from Florence.
Let us know how to contact you when you get settled and we will keep you informed about events in the area.

Welcome to Oregon! I lived near Florence close to 30 years ago. It has grown up A LOT since then. There are some nice motorsports and Corvette events in the Portland area worth driving up here once in while. As duckvette says, you do have 3 clubs not too far away. The road to Eugene is fun, but can be dangerous. There a lot of fatals in the steep and twisty parts, especially at night. Before you flog it, get to know it, and beware of Black Ice. I don't know if ttey have that where you are from, but we DO have it here. Black Ice is a very thin film of ice that can form from condensation, fog or mist, contacting a cold road surface, and freezing to a thin solid film. When approaching, it looks like a moderatly safe damp road surface. What a surprise when the grip level goes to near zero!

Again, welcome to Oregon!

Oregon coast is way over rated, you will hate it there! Once you make the move tell all your friends family forum members and others how crappy it is. Tell them you wish you had never made the move. Tell them to stay home and not even bother coming for a visit 'cuz it is so terrible. Tell them it was the worst decision of your life.

Seriously, I hope the sea level elevation will help you !
(ps, hiway 36 in n.cal is a bit of fun)

Good luck in Florence, all I know about is a sand dune buggie club there. Lots of sand dunes, motorcycles, quads, etc.

Oregon is a great place. Everything is green year-round. Whether your driving up and down the coast, or along the Columbia Gorge, or a day trip to Mt Hood. Most points are very picturesque. It can rain a fair aomunt in the winter. No extreme temps/conditions. During most of the summer the weather is perfect and you'll be hard pressed to find a better place to be.

Welcome to Oregon!!

P.S. We have the best micro-brew beer in the country.

The drag strip in White City is called Champion Raceway (friday street legals $7 admission $15 more to race) and I belive the autocross is part of Southern Oregon Speedway . Charlie

Hi skylark, I am well aquainted with the White City sports park. Every year Siskiyou Sports Car Club (SSCC) put on an endurocross at the go cart track. For a couple of years I set fast Time of Day at the event. I was driving an Argo Formula Super Vee that I restored and autocrossed in the Reno area.

Note to OzzieC4, I agree, it's a terrible place. I'm telling all my friends to stay away. State route 44 also has some good places to stretch your legs. Only WATCH FOR ICE. But I believe Oregon route 66 between Ashland and Keno has one of the best drives (west to east) in all of the N.Cal. and S. Oregon, bar none.

duckvet, I'll stay in touch, my e-mail will change when we move, so I won't post my old one now.
Keep your eye out for a '99 vert. Mag Red, with the plates MCS LS1, that's us.
