Just wondering since we all have Z06's, do you think we will ever own a better car? We just might be driving the best machine for the $.

I am going to keep mine forever. Even If I have to store It away under a cover for many years, I'm keeping It! The future will bring some amazing cars...I'm only on this planet once(Hopefully)lol~ I will Indulge In the up & coming technology! I'm siked to see & own the future's amazing cars. But I'm not rushing life for It...It's going way too fast as It Is~
I really like the look of the C5 better, but its hard not be tempted by the 500+ hp of that high tech 427 small block. I've thought I might buy a C6 someday... once they have been around for a few years and its possible to pick up a used one for about what used C5's go for now... Perhaps you guys have a point, may be better to mod the heck out of my C5.

From a performance enthusiast stand point without a lofty budget, I think this is truly the best buy on the market. As for owning a better car,... I certainly hope so. I'm only 24 and have a lot of car buying ahead of me and I don't intend to get anything below what I already have. The Z06 has certainly set the bar high and with the new Z06, it just jumped to another level. Now if they would only cut 30 grand out of that price tag...
For the money hands down the Z is the best. Let's say a benevolent person leaves me millions upon their demise. Then I make one of my dreams come true, a seven car garage with a high performance car in each. Porsche, Ferrari etc...but one slot will always be designated for a Corvette.
I have never owned a Corvette before. I was always a MOPAR guy since high school (long time ago). When the Z06 first came out, I dreamed of owning one. It seemed to me to be a sort of a "throw back" just like me. I just could not see the money for a new one that I was not sure I could drive that much. Pretty much gave up.
Last spring I had two big jobs back to back and with a birthday comming up told my wife that I wanted to buy somthing that would be fun to drive. Found a 2005 CTS-V at one of the dealerships in Cleveland (where I was working). When I told my wife, she said I WOULD RATHER HAVE A CORVETTE!!!
Short story - found an 04 Z06 at another local dealership and purchased it at a good price. We been riding ever since. I don't think that you will find a car that does the things they do for the money. It has a few rough edges, but still fits me (and her) just fine.
Sooner or later I might. But for the $$$ buying my used 02 Z06 was a performance bargain that is hard to touch or beat. When out on the track (road course) there are not that many cars in stock form that can compete with it unless you spend megabucks. Just awesome and probably more car than I will ever have the skills to master.

Even though I'm still well under 40, I think the Z will be the high point for me. With the cost of living and kids, etc., I think it will be a long time before I get another "nice car". By the time retirement comes around, I bet performance cars will be history (at least in this price range relative to the current cost of other goods--I would not shell out $120k in 2006 dollars for a sports car in the future).

I am a long time European car nut... Have owned MANY Porsches, BMW's, Mercedes etc.... Not to mention the Caterham 7, Triumph Spitfire, TR6. I had driven the previous generation C4 Corvette that a friend of mine owned and quite frankly I think it may have been one of the worst cars I have EVER driven... It was cheap, plasticky and had all the chassis stiffness of silly putty... I drove it at Laguna Seca one day and coming over the crest of turn one at about 110 mph, I really thought bits of it were going to fall off it was shaking and shimmying so badly.... The car was only 3 months old at the time.... Just a giant P.O.S. in my opinion.... HOWEVER... I took a ride in the C5 ZO6 at Sears Point and the owner let me drive it and I was hooked. ENTIRELY different car in every respect. The interior was every bit as good as any of my Porsches (all pre-996 cars), the chassis was stiff, the engine is berserk and the brakes, even though they are slider brakes work quite adequately. In all, I was and still am THOROUGHLY impressed by the car. I could have bought another Porsche/BMW etc, but in MY opinion the C5 ZO6 is THE performance bargain of the century... what other car can you buy for @ $30,000 give or take, that can get 0-60 in 3.9 - 4.0 seconds, will run a quarter mile in 11.7 - 12.3 seconds, only weighs 3100 lbs (mine was computer scale four wheel weighed at 3028 lbs with 1/3rd of a tank of gas), has fantastic chassis stiffness, has such a huge variety of aftermarket parts for it and will tear up a road course like almost no other car out there. As a point of comparison, the new Ford GT 500 goes 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and the 1/4 in 12.9 (Car and Driver figures), the new BMW M6 goes 0-60 in 4.1 - 4.7 seconds 1/4 mile in 12.4 - 12.7(Car and Driver figures).... A well driven C5 ZO6 is more than a match for an averagely driven C6 ZO6.... As you can tell, my love for all Cars European has been significantly diminished by my ownership of my QS C5 ZO6
