Default All-aluminum chassis?

I read the December '06 Motor Trend magazine comparing Viper, Corvette and Mustang. Said the Z06 they tested had an all-aluminum chassis. I was kind of under the impression the chassis was steel. Is Motor Trend correct?

Incidentally, the Corvette "won" overall. Go figure .

Only the C6 Z06 is, the C5's and the non-Z06 C6's are steel.

...and it a hydro formed aluminum aluminum chassis, meaning less welds to fail and less weight, more structural strength...

GM definitely spent some $$$ on the chassis. Reading about the C6 Z never ceases to amaze me.

Nope. I don't like it at all. I'll just keep my C5 with steel frame and "buggy springs" Just kiddin' I do appreciate some of the Technology in C6. Just can't get past the "Body."

Perhaps someone will mount a C5 body on a C6 chassis

I'm sure we'll see that "Resto" project cross the block at a Barrett-Jackson some time in the future. I've said it before in here I'd like to see that done.

The C6 body is basically mounted to a C5 chassis.

Both the C5 and C6 chassis are built with hydroformed steel tubing.

Great way to save some weight and still be strong structurally.

Close but not quite.

The C6 has a 1" longer wheel base.

The C6 has a 1 1/4" narrower track( center of rear wheel to center of rear wheel )

the exterior of the C5 is larger then the C6. But the C5 is 1" lower then the C6 on stock ride heights
