I was doing some winter cleaning today, and noticed under the right rear wheel well lining, at the top of the well, there is a black wire with white stripe coming from the rear taillight area and ending at the front side of the wheel well. It appears as though it has been cut. I have never had the car to the dealer for any work. The only place its been is LPE. I can't figure out what this is and what it's for. See pics below.
Possibly aftermarket to light up the exhaust plate or other add on. Measure for voltage. If you get 12v with the lights on, nothing with them off, I'd say that it was for an added lamp of some sort. Maybe for some accessory removed, such as XM, etc. Just guessing though.
Isn't that the fire detection wire loop. For when you perform so many hard burnouts the tires actually blaze up.
thats what i'm talkin about. it looks after market to me too. maybe not a tow pkg. but..... probably a ground/hot wire for an amp/changer. or a goofy alarm system, or something similar. do check to see if it has juice!! check with lights on/off. a volt/ohm meter at harbor frieght is sooooo cheap and very usefull for this kinda stuff.
Wow! I can't believe how lucky you are. Gm only made one car with that wire. It releases the smoke, oil, and nails from the rear of our car when chased by the police or bad guys. it also gives you an added 200 hp! congratulations!
in otherword - it is something aftermarke which was removed.
Wow. Not much help here. I bought the car new. It has 11k miles. Only aftermarket stuff installed by anyone other than me is LPE. So, any other useful thoughts?
If you bought the car new, it could be for a dealer installed/removed option, or an option that was not installed on your car from the factory.
I have a friend who ordered a c5 with sport seats, and it was delivered without - mistake at the factory. I don't know if something like this could be the answer, but it may be something to consider.

Follow the wire in both directions and see what it attaches to.
Well its cut on one end, as stated. The other end leads to the rear of the vehicle. The consensus on the other forum is that it is a power antenna lead that is not needed on the z06. This makes sense since i bought the car new, and no one has done any work on it except LPE for a supercharger.

I think the mystery is solved.
All leads for radio antennas, power and otherwise, are run inside the tub and under/behind carpet and are not run where that wire is located. The appearance (gauge, color, etc) of that wire does not have a factory original look to it.
Did LPE install wheel tubs in your car?
