On the '00, the fuel filter is located on the frame rail on the driver's side, close to the tranny/differential area. I went to the dealer yesterday for some work on my wife's DD and asked about the cost of a fuel filter from them - $68. (That's for my '00)
There are three different fuel filters on C5's. The early years with the return fuel line used a cheap ~$16 filter located on the frame rail. Mid-year C5's had a fuel pressure regulator incorperated with the filter, cost around $45. Late year C5's (and C6 by the way) have the fuel filter in the gas tank (around $300 to change).
The good news is that the Shop Manual says you never have to replace the fuel filter unless it is a problem (clogged).
