Default Tire Hop

Hello My 1st post as Im a new Vette owner
99 coupe 47000 mi drove car from va to nj bout 300 miles with no issues other than loud tire noise from the run flats But the passenger side rear tire seems to be louder to me from the driver seat. Now im in nj the car seems not to be riding as smooth there seems to be a tire hop when hitting sharp bumps in road
Just looking for some ideas before monday when i take it to repair shop anyone in SNJ got any recomnds for shop???

Wheel hop and tire noise are common with the stock runflats. I switched to Michelin Pilot Sports which are a great improvement. there are many alternative tires out there which will also ride quieter and more stable.

BTW, welcome to the Forum and congrats on the Vette. You can delete the duplicate posts by going edit post and delete

Are you talking about bump steer???? The car lurches to one side sharply when hitting a bump? My rear end does that I've had it alligned to no avail, has to be a worn bushing or something but I haven't found it yet. Soooo I'll sit back and let the experts chime in....

Replace the runflats and it will be lot better. You would still have some tire noise though

The wheel hop, Bump steer and road noise are all common problems with the run-flats. Get rid of the run-flats and you'll solve most of your problems.

Also might want to replace your shocks if they haven't been so far.

You could but it may cause some interesting handling issues. I'm a firm believer in like tires at all corners.

Check tires for a flat spot or bent wheel. No wheel hop with mine in 9000 miles on my new run craps & up to 110 mph @ the drag strip.

Side ways jumping, yea on Michigan crap roads, common to sport car suspensions. My Ruststang & Trans Am did that also in MI

Used to get a lot of sideway tire hop on rough roads, lots of road noise-dumped the run craps and GSD3's later for a much smoother and quieter ride-Yep it was the tires. Do all four as I've heard its a lot safer but then its your money and spend it any way you want.

Default Tires and Personal Experience

I had wheel hop upon heavy throttle and the back end wanted to do a 360 when entering the freeway, quite a ride and frankly scared the hell out of me. I also heard a wa wa sound when the windows were down.

I went to Global Tires in Costa Mesa, CA as they are the alleged experts in tires as they fit rubber onto the Ferrari's, Lambo's and other high performance vehicles.

Verge test drove my car on the freeway for about 15 minutes and came back with this solution. The wa wa sound and loss of rear end traction was due to delamination of the tires (factory original with 22,000 miles), belt separation was occurring.

He put a set of Michelin Sport tires in my car's tire codes on the vehicle, these are run flats, and the sound was gone. Also gone was the vehicle lateral stability as the tires did not grip the road as firmly as the Goodyears and there was some sliding I did not appreciate. I went back, paid another $500 to trade in the Michelin sports as while they were alleged to be of the exact same tire size as the ones removed, they were 3 inches in circumfrance larger than factory stock which nearly cost me an exhibition driving ticket.

I have the new factory stock wheels on the vehicle and the problem of wheel hop, pulling to oneside or the other is gone. I did not have to install upgraded sway bars etc as this fixed the problem.
