Default Cam Question

I am looking for a cam that has a very aggressive idle and one that will give me a decent power increase in the lower rpm range (2500-6000). I still want the car to be very street friendly since it will probably never see a track. Honestly, I am more concerned with the sound than the performance increases. Any help, especially in the way of sound/video clips would be great. Thanks in advance.

Here's one of my last car. 232/234 112lsa. A good tune makes all the difference in the world.

Rick,
How was the driveablility of the car with that cam? Also, what range do you really start seeing the power increase. Was it sluggish at all off the line? Any problems? Thanks.

Anyone else...

It made more power across the board after the cam and LT's. Before the tune it surged a bit trying to find idle when coming to a stop. That cam hit hard at 4000rpm. A good tune will solve most driveability issues. Heres another oldie. Bad video but you get the idea.

Rick,
Would a cam like this work on a bone stock car 99 C5 M6. I plan on doing cat-back exhaust and maybe a different intake before i go with the cam. Other than the springs, rods, etc. when i get the cam done, is there anything else i NEED for it to give me decent results? Thanks again.

Here are a few vids for you...99 coupe

cold start:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...87919062&hl=en

Idle:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...95981672&hl=en

Mods are: TR224 cam (224/224 .563/.563 112lsa) TSP LT headers, Corsa Pace Car exhaust, no cats

Power band is really flat...I'm over 300 lb-ft of tq at ~2500 - 4500 rpms i think. Car pulls hard to 6500rpms no issues with cam surge at all

The sounds gets adicting

I installed a 228/232 588/595 on a 110LSA + 1. Good hp and tq increase all across the board. Sounds better in person than on this clip, but it will give you an idea. Have had a few guys at intersections roll down their windows and tell me how mean it sounds.

How will driveability/reliability compare between a 224/224 on 112lsa and a 228/232 on 110lsa+1. I really enjoy the sound of the 228/232 better but I was wondering if I would run into more problems with the bigger cam. Any input would help. Thanks a lot.

Get yourself the Magicstick 4 kit from texasspeed

as for street car cams, LSA is usually between 104 and 114, the higher the LSA the better the idle quality. Stock heads dont flow enough to make a huge cam useful and if you get a cam with huge lift you can actually bleed off power from the valves being open to long. Your gonna need pushrods and valvesprings as well

How did it drive at 1500-2000 RPM

I'm running the G5X3 cam on a 112 LSA. This is one of the best sounding cams out there. With Heads, LT Headers and this cam plus a 100 shot of Nos I had 521.7 rwhp and just the motor was 417 rwhp with a tune by LG Motorsports.

Both are regularly driven cross country cars

Also, will the g5x3 work with a completely stock motor. I plan on doing cam only for now, so will anything else (other than valve springs, pushrods etc) like heads need to be modded to accomodate a cam of this size. Thanks.

Do full bolt-ons before doing a cam. You may be disappointed with the results otherwise.

Bolt-ons = good intake, headers, high flow cats (or cat deletes), x-pipe, catback system.

Stock heads are sub-optimal, but they are not as critical as bolt-ons.
