Default Active Handling Warming Up???

Hi,

I have a 2002 roadster with 34K mikes, A4 stock. I drive 34 miles via interstate for work. Each morning I stop at Starbucks and get coffee. When I leave Starbucks, I have a quick merge onto a busy four lane for about 100 yards curving to the left at the end and then a sharp right going sharply downhill and immediately curves back to the left and I have a 90 degree right turn about 40 yards down the hill.

This morning I accellerated mildly out of Starbucks and turned to the sharp right and then downhill left going probably 30mph.

The temp was 49 degrees and the streets were pretty dry.

As soon as I braked to make the sharp right turn I heard a chime and saw the active handling icon on my dash as I was making the sharp left turn I noticed that the DIC said "Active Handling Warming Up". About 1 or 2 seconds later the icon was off and the DIC message displayed "Active Handling Warmup Complete".

I understand the Active Handling coming on when it did but why after a 30 minute drive did it have to warm up?

Thanks,

J

Active Handling didn't come on....and this message has nothing to do with temperature.

This message normally appears when you make several sharp turns shortly after starting the car. Doesn't matter if it's hot or cold.

Each time you start the car, the AH system performs a self-test of it's system and sensors. During this test, it would like to see the car going straight. If you make some sharp turns right away, it can hamper this self-check process, and the "warming up" message is displayed, merely telling you that the AH system is off for a little bit while it runs through it's self-test again.

The "warm up complete" message means everything is back to normal, and the AH system is back on and ready.

This is a very normal message, nothing to worry about.

It's normal, as per your owners manual.

Make your own coffee and pretty soon you will be able to afford a brand new C6.

Bonnell: the above stated by Y2K is correct, however i don't think thats your problem. If this has never happened to you before on the same road in your same routine, why would it do that all of a sudden today?
Have you recently disconnected the Inlet Air Temp sensor in the air bridge? When re-installing that, you may not have complete contact b/w the two lines. that or your IAT sensor has gone bad. I got this same message in my car, and turns out i bent one of the prongs on the plug, replaced it with a new one and viola, problem solved! no more AH Warm up.
and btw, my temps were below 30*, so it has nothing to do with outside temp.

Post back and let us know...

After reading Y2KVert4Me and then reading your post I realized what was different. I have made that set of turns at that speed many times. What was different today is that as I leave Starbucks and merge onto the four lane, the merge lane is very short. Sometimes there is a city bus sitting at the end of the merge lane and that was the case today. However, after I started moving the bus turned on his turn signal and immediately cut out in front of me and I had no choice but to switch lanes quickly.

I cut into the left lane while accelrating, passed the bus, moved back to the right lane and then almost immediately had to make my sharp right turn that starts the short but sharp series of turns.

It would seem to me from what Y2KVert4Me explained, this makes perfect sense, my acceleration out and around the bus and back in added two very quick direction changes to my normal route. This happens withing 30 seconds of restarting my car leaving Starbucks.

I think Y2KVert4Me is right.

Make my own coffee??? Neva! It is never as good...
