Check the audio forum and do a search. Many have done what you're attempting, including myself. You need an IPod2car adapter, and one other short harness adapter that plugs in to the back of your head unit and connects to the Ipod2car adapter. Then the factory harness plugs back into the aforementioned short harness adapter. Easy stuff. You'll be thrilled with the sound.
Ok, I tried the Cassette method. Didn't like it, will be trying the Itrip method tomorrow but saw this thread and would really like to hard wire it in, either to the head unit or the 12Disc player. Do you have a link to the Audio Forum?
Thanks ....Rocket

Maybe, yeah, I think so. But why on earth would you want to retain the function of the CD player when you have a 30 or 60 gig Ipod at your disposal?
I have the in dash CD player in mine (never had the changer in the trunk) and even though the CD player is still functional, I never use it since making the switch.

As other have said, yes. You unplug the connector from the 12-disc changer and plug it into the iPod.
But also, as others have said, once you have iPod connectivity the 12-disc changer is kind of moot. Just rip your entire CD collection and load it onto the iPod.
I use a ProClip mount to keep the iPod secure, visible and accessible from the driver's seat. I could have sworn I posted some pictures of the setup in a thread a while back, but I can't find it now.
I bought a Peripheral Electronics Ipod2car used from someone on this site and it works great. You simply plug the wire from the 12 disc changer into the interface they supply and run the wire to the front of the car. The sound is cd quality and I can use the radio controls to skip songs if I like. I'm not sure how hard it is to adapt without the 12 disc changer.
I've got a 98 coupe that I used the IPOD-to-car adapter with the peripheral wiring harness PXHCH1 (only if you don't have the 12 cd changer) and it works just great.
This my solution. Everything hides away nicely, iPod's in the glove box. The controls work just like the iPod. Excellent system... Harman Kardon Drive 'n Play. With the cup holder and ashtray covers closed, no one knows you have an iPod in the car.
