Hi There--
I just got my rings replaced at Connell Chevrolet in Costa Mesa, CA & hope this finally ends the oil consumption problem.
Thanks for everyone's help & support.

Hi--
Ii took a week to get the rings installed & I got a Malibu as a free loan car.
I got the GM Zone Manager to give me a 6 year/100,000 mile warranty & they extended my one year/12,000 mile Smart Care warranty for free oil changes to 2 years/24,000 miles. Try to get the name & phone number of your GM Zone Manager, as he controls everything.

Bob, I live in Trabuco Canyon so I must have the same area zone manager as you do. Could you give me the guy's name and number. My quicksilver Z has been using oil at a qt per 1100 to 1800 miles. As of now, I have no intention of getting rings but things may get worse. What was your consumption? My car was a courtesy delivery at Connell in Costa Mesa. Let me know how the fix goes for you as you drive it. Personally I have very little confidence in MacPherson Chevy in Irvine to break into my motor. Connell could be an alternative.
Good news on the ring install. I have heard only good news about the fix and I wish you the best of luck. What did they tell you on seating them/break-in? I have also heard the General considers 1 qt. of oil every 1,000 within "spec"! If that's the case, we might all be trouble soon!
The zone manager's name is Andrew Fegan. I was using a quart of oil for every 500-600 miles & my car had 9900 miles when I had the new rings installed. The GM tech at Connell is John Coleman & he has over 20 years experience & he explained how he torqued everything down with different amounts, so everything would remain tight. He really seems to know what he is doing & he had done a previous ring install. I would recommend Connell highly & Alan Vondra is a great service manager. I don't think GM would consider your oil consumption too high, since you are getting at least 1100 miles per quart of oil & I think GM says it must be less than 1,000 miles per quart.

My car is in my chevy dealer now getting this "fix" This is the 3rd time the car has been back for this problem along with a few others. They have had my car for over a week already! I got a friggin' Pontiac Grand Prix that I had to pay $250 for (they said they would pay me back) I was using a little over 3 quarts / 450 miles :mad How am I (or anyone else who has driven around all the time with the low oil level light on) supposed to know that there isn't any extra wear and tear on the camshaft lobes or lifters or anything else in the upper end? I asked one of the guys over at GM headqurters and he said he would extend my warranty. Ok, I am leasing the car and it will go back in 3 years anway, so what good does that do me? What about the oil that I have been dumping into the car? What about the corvette payment that I am paying to drive around in a Grand Prix POS? It doen't even have a CD player! :U This is :bs Sorry, I got a little carried away :boxing
Thanks for the info Bob. I doubt they would accept my car either. As luck would have it, my low oil warning chimed in on the DIC as I went to lunch today. I've gotten in to the habit of keeping a couple of quarts of Mobil One in my car at all times.
