I believe in the DIC, if the DIC can't account for time, then at least once a year (as per manual). Out of all of the people that have made comments one way or another has anyone gone very low milage in a long time (close to a year) and can the DIC detect time, or does the oil life % go down after just sitting? I personally wouldn't go a year on oil in any car, but I drive my cars, they don't sit, so I hit the milage I need to in order for an oil change to be needed.

Its not rocket science here people . I cannot believe how many people cant decide when to change their oil . Its like they just got the drivers license, the vette is their very first car and they have no idea how to read a owners manual that tells them to change it AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR no matter what.

Im sorry, but the long time standard to change oil is 3K miles or every 6 months for dino oil, so if you even stick with that old statement you will be fine. We have been bombarded with this same reference for 40+ years in commercials, advertisements and owners manuals when to change oil. If you still dont get it they have a dang computer helping to make the decision even more simple. This is serioulsy borderlining on being severely mentally challenged not understanding when to change it.

To some people just change it when you change the sheets on your bed and that will probably be safe.

If floating your boat is changing it every 1k, 2k or every weekend if you race or whatever then go for it. To each his own, all the rest can keep on guessing. Its only a friggin $35 to change it. I spend that on lunch everyday.

Im sorry but my neighbors 8 year old could read the owners manual and figure out when to change it.

People ... RTFM .....

"Your vehicle has a computer that lets you know when to change your engine oil. This is not based on mileage, but on engine revolutions and engine operating temperature." .... NOTE - it doesn't count "dead time" between engine starts.

Also ...

"The system won't detect dust in the oil. So, if you drive in a dusty area, be sure to change your oil and filter every 3,000 miles or sooner if the CHANGE OIL SOON message appears."

You can change your oil as often as you want, but the old 3,000 mile "rule of thumb" doesn't apply to synthetic oils like Mobil1 .... that's why GM put the oil change calculator on the car.

Briann is right too, how long have you heard 6mo/3000mi oil changes? things don't change just because its a Corvette. and with your intervals its WHATEVER COMES FIRST milage or time. Synthetics nowadays can go longer, but even a year is quite a while. It all depends too if the car is sitting or being driven. Mine sits most of winter and I dont like the idea of oil with moisture/acid in it being circulated in my engine come spring time, so it gets changed before storage and if needs be halfway during the season(if mi gets up there, which it never does), it gets done again. Its up to you what you do, I expect my engine to last AT LEAST 30+ yrs. its like an oil change costs a $1,000 bucks or something!

Yeah but there are DICs in almost all new GM cars(or thereafter 2000) hell my moms Olds Silhouette has an oil counter, so does My Trans Am and So does My GTP....but none of those run on SYNTHETIC now or from the factory...and yet they have the same change intervals as a vette....and they run conventional. For me, oil changes are like the blood of your vehicle, I ALWAYS changed my parents' 89 Olds cieras oil on time and that baby ran 445,000kms, and the engine still woulda gone to 500k. I had read before the same about Mobil 1(how its diff after Katrina). Really the best thing to do when in doubt is send the oil sample out for analysis, they will come back and tell you what elements were found in the oil, and if you can go longer on your next change and which oil causes less wear.

Why don't we all just do what we want to do with our own vehicles and accept that others will do the same?

I have always changed my oil every 3,000 miles for every vehicle that I have owned, and plan to do so with my 01 Z06. Just my $0.02!

Service history is non existent if the owner does his own work such as tune ups, oil changes and such. I had warranty work (2 different times) done 1 and 2 years ago and it doesnt show on Chevy's VIN printout as ever been performed.

Mine is a weekend warrior with about 2,000 miles a year put on,the DIC shows about 80% after a year's time.I used to change it every 6 months but then realized it was a waste. No short trips here, every time I take her out she gets a good run to burn off any contaminants and condensation formed.
