Its a 2004. Car has 8000 miles. When should I change it? I was thinking 10000 miles. How many quarts will I need? And what is the filter part number I will need. I was at the store today and it only showed 1 filter under 2004 corvette. So, is the Z06 the same part number filter as a standard 2004 vette?
I'm new here, but this guy (SpdKilz) has an amazing website. He also has a bunch of DIY guides, including one for oil changes: http://www.spdkilz.com/techtipoil.html
3,800 miles on my 04. Oil has been changed four times allready. Will be doing it's fifth in a week or two before she goes into winter hibernation. The way I look at it oil and filter changes are cheap insurance to keep the internals of the engine in top condition.

Reason: misspelled word

Oil filter is P44/46 and I would change as soon as possible so you know yourself when it was done.
Not to rain on the above posters parade, BUT GM put a lot of research and technology into your car, and your DIC will TELL you "CHANGE OIL SOON" when about 7% of the oil life remains, and that will change to "CHANGE OIL NOW!!!" When your oil life remaining goes to ZERO. IMHO I would follow my DIC

This is like changing your clothes 6 times a day. Makes absolutely no sense.
To me its cheap insurance. there are limits on how long oil is good for before moisture and dust/dirt will break down the oil. I personally never let my DIC go below 50%...a dealer I talked to said 40, but I play it safe. And honestly....how much is a good oil change...60 bucks?, do it yourself(which I do in 20 mins with a beer in hand) and its $35 and you know its done right! Im not 100% sure, but I thought oil changes were based on a milage/time frame....the time frame obviously not being 3-4 years!
Twice a year or every 5,000 miles. This is probably more often than it should be done but I don't mine the expense or the time to do it. The DIC has an excellent program to monitor the oil life based on type of driving style, operation and number of starts. It is pretty much right on. If it would tell me to change my oil before the above mentioned schedule is followed I would do so.

this isn't 1914 my friend. both metals and oil have come a long way. it's amazing to me how so many people insist on throwing away money for absolutley no good reason. it's also funny how 99% of those people are only fixated on the oil. what about your fuel filter, and your air filter? how about the trans fluid and rear gear fluid? do they change all of those out every 2000 miles too? why not?
you've got to be careful about the air filters too because if they suck in one to many flies a eyeball could make it's way through the filter media into the cylinder head and scratch a valve. they should be changed every day to be safe
edit:also be sure to change out the air in the tires to prevent it from becoming stale and rotting the tire from the inside.

I am not trying to start a oil change interval arguement. Just wanted to know how many quarts and what filter part number. The manual may say how many quarts it takes, but, another vehicle I had in the past. I found the info was wrong(4 cyl.Toyota Tacoma)and I overfilled it. (It was only a 1/2 quart.) When I went and talked to the dealership service. They told me they put in 1/2 quart less than the owners manual says. They felt the specs in the owners manual were factory specs and that you could never recover approx. 1/2 quart when you drained it.
I forgot to mention the oil thats in it now is extremely clean on the stick. The monitor says 60% remaining. I assumed it was changed once at 5000 miles but I have no records. I plan on doing it every 5000 miles. But everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Forget about the DIC and change ASAP and then change once a year before the winter. The key with extended drain intervals is to always get your car up to operating temps especially in cold weather to burn off all the condensation formed in your engine and your exhaust.
A little tip: the drain plug is on the front of the pan. Make sure the rear of the car is an inch or two higher than the front and you will get about another 1/2 qt of oil to drain. Using this method, it will take close to 7 qts to fill.

lol, this thread is hilarious....so you guys are telling me, if I put on 1500mi/yr which I do, I should wait 3-4 years before the DIC TELLS ME I should change the oil? i dont think so....the DIC cant calculate how much time has passed between 0-5000mi....it could be 15 years. Obviously Im not saying replace every fluid in your car monthly! but it should be done AT LEAST once a year. As for other fluids they should be replaced in the proper service intervals....once again taking into acount TIMELINES!!!! next your gonna tell me Dex-Cool lasts 150,000 mi/20 yrs and the "extended life" spark plugs are good for 100K....lucky if they are good for 50. lol, its funny when people wont ante up$50/yr on an oil change on a car that cost OVER $50,000.00 in the first place....makes sense to me
