Just got my vette and did a temp install of my XM system for a road trip this pass weekend. Put mag. ant. on top, and over metal clamp for glass top. Not to good, as it blew off as I passed another car at @ 110, was banging on rear glass, bout **** myself. No harm done, put it back on top and stayed off triple digits for rest of trip. Will do some research on here for best permanent location.
I put mine on the dash up front and ran the wire unseen accross the front window in the crack. Totally unseen!
I held the antenna in place with a small piece of double sided tape on the bottom of it!
The reception seems to be even bette at the front of the dash and window as opposed to the roof as my other cars! WHY? you say! Well I don't know but it seems to work well that way also in my work truck too! Again better that a mount outside!
I will re-install the one on my Jetta and my wifes car inside soon! Also keeps them out of the weather!
My car has an XM radio, was in it when I bought it. The antennae sits on top of the car, between the removable roof and the back window. As long as you stay under triple digits, it doesn't move.
Put my AVIC D2 antenna inside the rear bumper also...works perfect with no issues. I ran the wire through the vent flap(supposed to relieve pressure when the doors are opened or closed) that can be accessed by reaching up inside the far left tail light. The vent sits between the fender and cargo tub!
Wish I knew where that was before I drilled a hole
On another issue mounting it on my dash here in NY was horrible, every time I put on the windshield wipers I lost reception!
Installed the Sirius in the Vette on a small bracket that raises the antenna above the tail lamp and just below the rear fascia cover. Had it on the rear bumper mount for about a year and never had a problem there. The areas I get signal lose in the Vette are the same exact spots that the 05 Grand Cherokee factory installed Sirius drops out.
I drilled a small hole through the tub fight next to where the magnetic antenna is sitting on the bumper support, just large enough for the antenna cable lead to be pushed through. Pull the cable through and then fill the hole around the cable with clear RTV. I then buried the antenna lead over the passenger side fenderwell, behind the passenger seat and up through the console. I have the controller mounted where the ash tray used to be.
Not sure what the sirius antenna looks like but I mounted my GPS antenna on top of the rear view mirror. Its a good location with a clear view of the satellites. The wires run along the windscreen and down the pillar.
It looks a little intrusive from this angle but viewed from eyeline you really don't see it.
