Default Sirius antenna mounting

Just bot a Sirius satellite radio and wondered how to mount the antenna other than using velcro on the back hatch window or the roof panel. Magnetic antennas don't work too well on Vettes.

some folks take out one of the rear brake lights and mount it on a metal bracket in the back. Thats probably how i will do mine eventually. Do a search , should be a few posts about this with pics.

I had my Sirius antenna installed on the passenger side dash. The antenna touches the front window and dash. I get good satellite reception.

I just throw mine on the dash. Recep is good. I'm just getting tired of having that pesky antenna wire laying around.

I have an 02 vert and installed mine on the upper center of the windshield, with 3M tape and routed the wire under the weatherstrip. I get great reception.

I took out the drivers side tail light and put the Sirius antenna on the steel frame, because it's supposed to work better by using the frame as an extension of the antenna itself, or something like that. Well, I tried it the way ^^^ those guys did it and found the reception is just as good just sitting on the dash, and it's much easier to install it there

Here's mine behind the pass side tailight. It works better than my wife's factory Sirrius in her Mercedes.

Not sure what the sirius antenna looks like but I mounted my GPS antenna on top of the rear view mirror. Its a good location with a clear view of the satellites. The wires run along the windscreen and down the pillar.

It looks a little intrusive from this angle but viewed from eyeline you really don't see it.

Small hole and rubber grommet. We ran the wire under the carpet along the pass side and just behind the seats we ran it over to the console and up the console to the radio. Mine is RF modulated and the unit is mounted behind the A/C controls. The XM Commander head is mounted on the ashtray with velcro so I can remove it if I want to someday.

Mines a Z so I don't know if it will apply, but my sirius antenna is installed right under the trunk lid by the hinge. There is a well there that is a few inches wide. I ran the cable under the weather stripping and into the back. From there I routed it under the carpet and console up to the ashtray. I have a custom mount attached to a lighter plug that I made so I can take it from car to car. The cable stays in the ashtray when not in use.

Default Don't install antenna in rear bumper.

Just bought a Sirius Stiletto and had the car kit installed buy Circuit City. After reading this forum about installing the antenna in the rear bumper, I decided to go against what Circuit City recommended and install the antenna in the bumper. That turned out to be a big mistake. I lose signal all the time especially when I go under trees (I also have a car kit installed on another car where the antenna is installed on top of the car and I never lose the signal). I would definitely recommend not installing the antenna in the rear bumper. I plan on moving the antenna soon.

I had the Same issue it depends what part of the country you are in. I ended up keeping mine in the bumper though but I moved it to the shelf above the license plate opening inside the bumper. I had to use double stick tape to hold it down but it works great there.

That's exactly where mine's been for 9 months, and it works better then the factory unit in my truck

Mine is on the bumper support inside the inboard passenger tail light. Great reception! I have a car kit in the Wife's Grand Cherokee with the antenna mounted on the roof. There is no difference in reception quality.

IMHO the antenna inside the car or under the body is a compromise in reception (I have had XM, now Sirius because of the sports coverage). I put the Sirius antenna (outside) on the panel below the back windshield. Routed the cable between the body panels and came in through the door and under the trim at the top of the passenger seatbelt. Easier than it sounds. I think it looks custom. My picky daughter agrees. Much better reception. I could post a pic tonight....

Put my AVIC D2 antenna inside the rear bumper also...works perfect with no issues. I ran the wire through the vent flap(supposed to relieve pressure when the doors are opened or closed) that can be accessed by reaching up inside the far left tail light. The vent sits between the fender and cargo tub!
