Gents I have started to look for a C5 as a daily driver. My question is for those of you who have experience with both Coupes and Verts - will the additional road noise with the Vert make me wish I had gone with a coupe? Thanks in advance for your help, I'm a C3 guy so now I'll have to keep track of both boards
I'm thinking that the coupe would be a better DD as well. If you're already thinking that noise may be an issue, it will become one. Get a coupe and do the Frost King mod to it, then enjoy the miles of smiles.
Coupe still gets open air experience. Mine is a DD, bought in March w/ 56k, now at 74.5k Almost 20k this year, and I love the practicality the hatch affords me, while still being IMO the best looking vette body-style. The targa comes out when you feel like you need it (I take mine out on days I am not doing business, gives you an extra treat. I like to ride with mine out when it is brisk, wearing gloves and a jacket but feeling that rush of cold wind and noise as I stab the gas is great for becoming very awake in the early morn But, I don't take it out that often, and I like the fact that the roof is solid and not cloth (had a top on my old 93 5.0 vert that got cut ALL the way across by a guy who I had backed down in a fight, and he paid me back like this, when confronted he denied it, still boils my blood ).
Coupe is the best of both worlds, get one today!!!
These cars have excellent and well padded convertible tops. My convertible does have the divider in the trunk area to cut down on noise some. My passion for sports cars has always been for convertibles. So if you want the "top down" option-your hair (if you have much) blowin' in the breeze-girls (women) squealing with delight as you cruise by....oh well, you'd better get the coupe,it's safer.
My vert is away for the winter, but in all honesty there is very little noise when the top is up. No wind noise, and the top is very well insulated...just get the noise from the tires in the rear, but I imagine all Vettes are like that regardless of body style.
If you haven't been in a vert, I suggest riding in one before you make your decision. I never thought I would have wanted a vert until I rented one for a day in Vegas and I was hooked!
My '00 is a DD. It's a vert and I love it. Top is easy to raise and lower for the commute to/from work and noise really isn't an issue. When the top is up the headliner does a good job of sound insulation. If you are otherwise inclined to get a vert, don't let the noise issue turn you against it.
I've had my vette for just ove four years now and have used it as a daily driver since day 1. I got the coupe because of the additional cargo room provided by the hatchback area while still having the ability to take the Targa top off for open air enjoyment.
Don't be discouraged by the noise of the vert though. Just need to think about storage wise, which would be better for your normal use. Both cars are great so you really can't go wrong. You are going to love either one.
If it's only road noise that is the deciding factor the coupe will be quieter. They are both going to be quieter than your c3. Enjoy whichever and welcome.
The coupes have vastly more interior room for cargo. If "daily driver" just means drive it every day but I have another car for errands, that's one thing. If daily driver means "this is my car", then I would definitely go with the coupe.
I love my Vert, but a coupe is more secure, left alone in parking lots.
The new C5s top is very quiet on the road and you can also buy a add on hard top for it. Good luck you'll love it. Much better all around package than a C3.
