i am the new owner of a used 2003 C5.
it it the best toy i have ever gotten.
i find myself missing freeway exits. going out of "my way" to get things. like 30 miles out of the way.
i have owned it for three weeks and have almost 2,000 miles on it.
it came with the shifter 1-4 chip installed so i can shift into any gear.
i put in a B&M shifter and right now i am just driving it.
today i put it up on ramps for a home oil change the first time and WOW (i got a sports car). this thing is built like an indy car! it has made me redefine what the term sports car means. made me redefine a lot of things.
i am out of the giddy phase and into the awed phase. so much power, so much control. well you guy's know!
looking forward to reading a lot more and maybe i can come up with a question that this seemingly bottomless pit of information has not already discussed. thanks for all the help! i have so many questions but need to do my homework before i bug you guys.
i do have one question. sometimes at about 3500-4500 35-45mph in 2nd or 3rd gear it makes a rattling or machinegun noise like a dragster. it always seems to be under acceleration and i don't have any other issues with the car. lack of power etc. i can break thru the top fo the rpm and the sound mellows into the car's normal deep engine roar.
is this normal?
Congrats and welcome to the Forum as well as the world of Corvette. Don't worry in about 2 years or so the smile may be almost gone, or not. I can't answer your question about the noise, but I am sure someone will.
Happy Holidays! Still get that goofy grin on my face every time I drive it. Is a running joke at work, and guess what? I don't mind a bit! I'm the one who gets to take it home.
Congrats - You may just want to check the next time its up in the air the exhaust system. From the cats back to the tips for any loose weld, bad clearance issues or a few members had rocks stuck on top of the exhaust and ALL of these only happened under load. The other thing is to do a search (top of page) for exhaust rattle - Thereare a number of threads on the subject. Good Luck...
Congratulations on your new baby. That smile won't EVER go away; trust me. I've already made up my mind that while I waited until I was 52 to get my first one, I'll never be without one again.
And congratulations on coming here. You'll find every bit of information on Corvettes you ever wanted to know here.
